Are seats covered under Toyota extended warranty?

I have just under 14,000 miles on my truck and I see some wear on the side of the drivers leather seat. I'm afraid it might become worse and become a tear,does anyone know if this will be covered under warranty,I also have the extended warranty,or will they claim it's a wear item and therefore not covered? It's got less than 14,000 miles on it,this shouldn't be happening.

 

What kind of pants are you wearing? Do you carry a blade

 

If you can prove it was defective craftsmanship they might cover it, likely only if the seams are ripping.

If its abrasion you're SOL, you can do that to a car with 50 miles or 50,000.

Unfortunately thats pretty common and from what I've seen has more to do with how you enter/exit the vehicle. I had my last tacoma for 130k miles and my seats were perfect, my buddy had his wearing like this in <50k miles. When I saw how we each got into our trucks it made total sense, I'm 6'4" and use the grab handle to "step in" to my truck, he was much shorter/heavier set and EVERY time he got in his truck he would SLIDE over the side of the seat which obviously puts a ton of wear on it.

You can always just re-upholster the leather, front seats would be like $600 through Katskin, sucks but at least there's a fix

 

No I'm not. I'm 5'10 190lbs.

 

But Katskin is a seat cover and then I would have to do the whole truck for it to match. I would rather either fix this or worst case replace the seat

 

As long as it doesn't rip,I can live with the way it is,I just don't want it to get worse.

 

oh wow its on the SIDE of the seat, Do you use detailers or wash the truck yourself?? Just guessing but there looks like some sort of white residue around there, almost as if someone tried to clean it with an abrasiveness chemical. Either that or something abrasive cracked it and it started pealing from there, do you wear a watch on your left hand by chance?? Could've brushed it while turning the knob just enough to knick the leather then it deteriorated from there

Its bonded leather so any rips will start to grow...

Either way doesn't hurt to take it to a dealer and ask, since its not on a part you sit on maybe they'll help you out but I couldn't count on it

 

The white residue is permatex leather and vinyl repair glue that I put on in an effort to prevent it from getting worse. No I don't wear a watch.

 

My first thought was "no, not covered". However, after I see your picture, I would say that is a manufacturer defect and should be covered. Doesn't appear to be either abuse or normal wear.

 

I guess I'll see what they say when I go for my next oil change. Wonder how much it would cost if I had to pay for a new seat plus installation. I'm guessing maybe $3000 I have no idea though

 

yea that delamination looks defective. id swing for the fence at take it to the dealer

 

What should I say when I show them? Should I ask if it's covered or should I act like I know it's covered? Not sure how I should go about crafting my question

They do a really good job matching factory color I'm sure you could get away with just doing both front seats if it came to that.

But for a temporary fix find a leather upholstery repair person, even ask your dealership's used car department find out who they use... theyr'e usually mobile. They'll coat it in some sort of like puddy they use, then they spray paint it with a little color matched paint then texturize it so it blends in. It'll only last a few years but prob only cost $50 and you can just keep doing it.
