I drove the truck yesterday without an issue. Parked it last night. It rained. I accidentally locked the doors using the passenger side lock.

Today I get into it and the alarm goes off. I try unlocking the doors three times. No change.

I disconnect the battery and reconnect it with the ignition on. The emergency flasher lights start blinking. I try to start it and nothing happens. Like power to the starter/igniiton has been cut.

I get out of the truck and close the door and it makes a series of short horn beeps. No start.

This is a stock alarm system as far as I can tell.

Is there any way to disarm or disable this?

Right now the truck is parked in my side yard. I can't even get it into my driveway.

Does your key fob look like this?

    If not, it's likely aftermarket.

I'd say that's a normal thing for older aftermarket alarm systems. The Viper I had on my old 4Runner eventually took a dump and started acting weird, so I had it removed.

But I don't tend to hear about OEM systems going back like that. Weird.

No key FOBs.. It has a sticker on the driver's window that says anti-theft system. Also, the dealer etched the vin numbers on each window.

I guess I will need to get it towed to the dealer to get them to remove whatever the hell is on this.

the RS3200 brain is typically behind the DS left foot kick panel. Check there and see if there is a black box there.

Ah so you've triggered the alarm without key fobs, so you're probably going to have to get an oem fob, connect the fob, and disarm it

So you don't have a key fob? You may just need to get one, then. Dealer would have them, they're expensive thru the dealer, but there are other options I believe. Not sure how to have it programmed tho, so dealer would be able to help there, too.

I believe the factory alarm is an RS3200, and it should say that on the module under the dash.

I remember trying to unlock one of my doors with the key (instead of the button) and it got all pissed off until I was able to disarm it with the button.

You can buy a fob online and should be able to find the program sequence also. It's a mixture of turning the ignition on and off and opening the doors

OMG - I can't believe what just happened.

I called Caldwell Toyota and explained the situation to the service tech about my 1999 Tacoma.
I asked: Do I need to get the truck towed in so you can work on it?

Service Tech replied: "Let me get the Service Manager to help you."

Andy Lamb comes on the phone and asks: "Where is the vehicle right now?" I gave him my home address.

He said: "Just give me a few minutes and I'll be right there.". I thought I was going pass smooth out.

Knock me over with a feather. The Service Manager is driving to my house to fix my 99 Taco in my yard!

He pulls up a few minutes later. We try a couple of things. I have a 10mm barrel, a #2 JIS driver, a punch and 10mm open end for disconnecting the battery.

We are in my side yard. He checks a couple of things. He pulls the panel under the steering column. Locates the anti-theft system module with the red 10 amp fuse. Pulls the fuse turns the key on, then reconnects the fuse and resets the system. Problem fixed. Some sequence of locking the doors and jacking around with the passenger door lock must have tripped the system. While he was under the dash, he showed me how to reset the system.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN AUTOMOBILE SERVICE LIKE THIS. CALDWELL TOYOTA now has a customer for LIFE.

Damn, that is straight up great service.

Shows you he's actually a fan of the brand and takes pride in his work, and not just some schmoe working there for a paycheck.

When you removed the Viper is the OEM keyless entry still present? If I got a OEM fob could I theoretically get rid of this barely functioning Viper?

The viper was on my '86 4Runner, no such thing as keyless entry back then, lol... I got it after it was broken into (twice) back in college. It really only lasted a few years before it started going nut. POS IMO...

As long as you still have the RS3200 hardware intact, you should be fine, I would imagine, but I don't know how the viper plays into the stock wiring and if they have to cut a bunch of wires to do it.

I thought with the RS3200 if the alarm goes off you can deactivate it by putting the key in the ignition and turning it to ON. This is in case the battery in the fob dies you're not stuck.

I'm not sure if your system was set to passively arm itself or something, but it's best to get a fob and program it however you want. If you do buy a fob from somewhere online make sure you communicate with a human to make sure you get the correct fob. There are slightly different versions based on year, etc., and sometimes they take the circuit board from original fobs and put them in new plastic housings, so you can't go by color, black vs. gray. Just make sure if the fob doesn't program that they'd be willing to send the correct one. Better would be to get a fob from a local store where they can make sure it works right there, but might be more expensive.

So I drove it to Kroger this afternoon to rent the Rug Dr.. I get out and go inside come back and load the Rug Dr in the bed. I sit in it while I wait for my daughter to come out. While I'm sitting in it the doors lock for no reason. When I hit the unlock button, it trips the alarm. Here we go again.

The bad part is its sitting with cars parked next to it. When I pulled in there were none around it. I'll need to go back later tonight to try to reset the alarm system. Something is causing the system to arm itself. Then it ignores me using my key to turn on the ignition or to disarm it by using the key.

Did you ever verify what type of alarm it is? You said it was a stock alarm as far as you can tell, but what did you base that on? A stock alarm or Toyota installed alarm will either have a red light built into the gauge cluster or have a red light mounted somewhere with the word Toyota under it. When the alarm is armed this light will blink every few seconds.

Best way to verify alarm system is to take a picture of the alarm computer box and read the model number printed on it. The guy from the dealer showed you were it is.

Were you able to get it going by pulling the fuse like the dealer guy did?

The service manager said it was part of a dealer installation campaign for Toyota in the southern region. Though, there is no red light or reset button on the dash. It has a little black bezel looking thing next to the fuse box. The service manager said that has a clear light inside it.

I'll need to go back later this evening and try the steps he went through to get it to run. I'll pull a picture when I get into it.

Wow I've never even heard a story close to that type of customer service. Do the guy a solid and send the general manager an email telling him how exceptional the service was from this guy. He deserves a raise or a bonus
