take it from someone that's had 2 minivans. i've got 3 kids. there's no reason to get a minivan for 1 kid. maybe for 2 kids, but i'd still skip it. 3 kids requires it for at least 1 of the vehicles assuming you have 2 vehicles.

Funny how people tend to stick with certain vehicles. VWs and Subarus (in particular Foresters) seem to be a popular among people who also like 4runners and Tacomas. I also had a Forester, a 2014 with the 6-spd manual. Lots of fun and ridiculously practical... decent off-roader too, but what compelled me to go back to Tacoma was the lack of low-range and a truck bed. The FB25 engines in those Subarus were also notorious oil burners, and mine was affected. After two short block changes (both under warranty), and my car only having 25k miles on it, I had enough.

I still like Subaru though and would buy again, but I'd definitely do more research beforehand on known issues.

The ground clearance in addition to the 4WD is the reason I wouldnt trade it in for an AWD car as the OP had asked.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Who sells any Toyota they buy, that is just madness!!!

I just dont think you understand. If your walking away from a truck for a " fun" car to drive then you were never really a truck person. You bought a truck cause you thought it would be "fun" and maybe increase your man points when you took it to the offroad park one time. An actual truck person would never drive anything but a truck. Truthfully half of the people who complain about this vehicle are just car people who decided to try a truck out. Once they realize its "slow" or "sluggish" or just difficult to park at their favorite place to grab a frappuccino they go back to a car.

Whenever I see someone contemplating trading in a taco for a car I think they will be happier with the car. Trucks are not for everyone.

This is true. But the automakers are partly to blame.

Full-size pickup is now the 2nd largest vehicle segment in US and Canada. Automakers have poured billions into pickups to turn them into viable alternatives to owning a sedan. And why wouldn’t they? Car companies make 10 times more money selling one pickup that selling a sedan, so they are happy to have everyone believe that a pickup can do everything a sedan can do, only better.

What is a truck person? I rode a Harley cross country for years, does that mean I was supposed to dress like a gay pirate? I have a Miata NB that I use for date nights and track days, does that mean I was supposed to aspire to be a gay hairdresser? I'm on my third Toyota truck, does that mean I am supposed to wear tap out shirts, chew tobacco, and slap my wife? lol

What a person chooses to drive does not define them in the least bit. I see this kind of ignorant behavior on my local roads all the time. I live way out in the country and when I drive my Tacoma every good ole' boy in the woods breaks their arm to wave at me. They all give me space, and we all get along. When I drive my Miata folks act like I'm pulling a dead dog behind me, and burning the American flag. That kind of shit is for the birds. The OP should drive what ever vehicle can deliver the kind of adventures they are after. I've crossed the great USA on everything from a Dual Sport Motorcycle to a Pickup. The point is to get out and do things. Life is about experiences, not buying shit that you can't take with you when you croak. Is polishing your bro truck on the weekends gonna give you fond memories when you are in your 70's. I don't remember babying my first ride, but I do remember my first kiss. I remember the time I crammed a 10pt buck into a sheet of plastic inside my wife's hatchback when she took my truck for a girls weekend out. I remember the time my Harley blew a head gasket in Iowa and a farmer and I rebuilt it in one night so I could go on to make it to Sturgis, and Wyoming. I remember taking all my college friends, and a truck load of guns into the Rockies to shoot out to 1000yds at steel.

I remember the first time I took my son up into the Blue Ridge mountains for some carving.

If I am anything I am a family man, and a Patriot. My wife is a patriot too, since her bad ass is taking her turn in Afghanistan. We do shit at my house, we don't just have shit. We don't talk down to someone for their choice in vehicles. That's some shallow crap right there.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
That's the way Mo. is. Big difference is you can most always get more from a private sale rather than the trade-in. Believe it or not -the used car market is where the dealers make most of their money. You still pay taxes on the difference, but the difference is less -- problem is all states do not handle the "dealer transactions" like the "private sale" transactions.

Yup. Those tax dollars sure as heck aren’t going back towards the folks that paid them in the first place.

Thanks , I really like the 02' Titanium Gray model with brown seats. It's well maintained and is sitting on Flyin' Miata Ultimate VMaxx coil overs, with a Flyin'Miata Clutch and 10lbs Flywheel. The 15x7" wheels are wrapped in 205's and it really is a smooth car. You can turn up the dampening and it is stiff as a surf board. It also has a Spec Miata alignment with some toe out so the turn in is like a go kart. Couple that with the roll bar, underbody bracing and big breaks, 6 speed, and torsen diff. It is such a fun little machine.

I don't live by it though, it's just a car, and my truck is just a truck. If they were to get stolen tomorrow, I'd probably buy another Tacoma and another NB. My wife loves throwing her hands up while the top is down. She gets car sick if I drive fast in our MK6 GTI, but she passes out in the Miata. That kind of behavior is priceless.

did you not test drive the truck before buying? i did. i noticed that all 3 had a jerking type thing at lower rpms/speeds going on. I picked the best one- who did it the least- out of the three. i dumped my 2019 mustang gt with a ticking/rattling motor that ford said was "normal characteristic" in trade. this taco does sooo much more for me than that and IF it lives up to its reputation, i will be very happy. I have just gotten in the habit of using ect full time and am going to use midgrade gas and see what happens. probably these motors run on 89/91/93 way better than 87. The ECU is probably retarding timing thereby slightly hurting performance. regardless, it's quick enough for me and am looking forward to using it at my personal offroad park and the beach once i break her in/change oil.
