Is this in the event of a forest fire or flood ?

For my location, it would be more forest fire evacuation. We are in an isolated city, in the middle of the boreal forest, hours from anywhere else with only one road in and one road out. However, it could be used for any number of occasions... including spur of the moment camping!

The stuff in my vehicle has multiple purposes: I use it for camping, but I also live in an isolated place with extreme winters. Having gear in case you break down/get stuck is important. Plus, we are in prime forest fire area, and in the event of an evacuation, I am ready to go for long term evac. .

in 2015, my brother lost his house in a forest fire when his whole city was evacuated in Northern Alberta. We are in the same type of location.

Yeah, it took him 3 years to get his house rebuilt. 2017 was a bad burn year here in Manitoba, tons of fires, but luckily nothing that close. Last year was better because we actually had some rain.

Hi! For what its worth here are some of my basic supplies ... I carry response bag (Red), Ready Bag (larger black bag) Training Bag (smaller Black bag, which is an abbreviated version of the ready bag) along with a full first aid bag (K9 & Human), 2 blankets & inflatable pillow, additional water and food rations, flashlights, insect repellants, compass, Cell phone battery back-up, knifes, emergency road flares, ropes, chains and fire extinguishers stored in the cabin. Most of this is based on SAR requirements.TruckPacks.jpg Red Bag Contains.jpg .TruckPacks.jpg

As stated multiple times, I rarely ever have passengers in the rear of the cab. If I do, it removes in 3 seconds. The bed is good, but preferably it should be within reach.

Skills trump gear. Being able to improvise, overcome, and adapt goes a long way when the fecal matter hits the oscillating ventilatory device.

That being said, the most important piece of gear in an emergency is the one above your shoulders, don’t lose it and you’ll be OK.

Probable vs. possible. Sure there may be a chance that X scenario may happen, but what are the odds?

A true ‘bug-out’ scenario could be due to natural disasters such as fires or flooding, but not an every day occurrence. Keeping a backpack with a few clothes/toiletries or a few totes in the garage ready to go in such a case wouldn’t be a bad idea, but I wouldn’t keep a lot of gear in the truck on a daily basis. (Especially in urban environments with a lot of prying eyes and sticky fingers). However, you can surprisingly fit a lot ‘stuff’ in the various nooks and crannies of a double cab turd gen!

Chances of a zombie apocalypse are pretty slim compared to something like dealing with a car accident. A cell phone and AAA/auto insurance goes a long way, a full tank of gas even further.

This was an interesting blog that covered someone’s experience through Hurricane Katrina:

This is a good book by Cody Lundin that can be picked up relatively cheap on Amazon or eBay:

That all depends on where you are and what time of year it is. Up here main highways are gravel in some places and might only get one vehicle a day, so everyone stops to help. But if a bear is hungry in the fall and finds you first you will be glad you had a 12 gauge or .44 mag. Locking yourself in a vehicle full of food is like advertising that you are also food, and I've seen a grizzly rip the door right off a f-350 because it wanted what was inside. If you're going to be prepared to travel in remote places you need to cover all the likely scenarios, this includes bringing a large caliber firearm.

Hmm when I was there it wasn’t the bears or moose I’d worry about, but rather the methheads from the Matsu Valley or the Samoan carjackers in Anchorage

Generally going from Fairbanks to Manly Hot Springs or to Central or to the Yukon River Bridge to launch boat. Everything but the haul road sees little traffic after hunting season ends. Same with Denali Highway. Moose and bears outnumber people by quite a bit.

And Los Anchorage is not really part of Alaska

Funny how that works, moron with a cell phone vs armed passenger. Smart move on his part getting back in his car.
