This was down around Rampart/Rainbow Falls. Rampart opened up on Friday so we decided to go drive around there a bit. Unsurprisingly it was quite busy... can't imagine what it'll be like for memorial day next weekend...

Ah, gotcha. I’ve heard it can get pretty crazy there.

Yeah it's not really a good place for 4 wheeling. It's a good place to take larger groups camping if you're just looking to be in the forest and drink beers around a campfire, though. There's some good single track dirt bike stuff there which is fun.

Small update. I finally installed the switch panel I bought over a year ago and I relocated the CB from the center console to under the dash. It's a much better setup than what I had before. But, the more wiring shit I do, the more I just want to ball out on an sPOD or Switch Pro or something. And the more CB shit I mess with, the more I realize I just need to go get my ham radio license...

I accidentally didn't buy enough blanks... I guess I need to install more EAF shit...

I'm going to powder coat the switch panel black once my friend gets his powder coating set up working.

I'm going to figure out something a bit cleaner for this handset cable passthru, but I didn't have anything on hand that would work.

Gonna be putting the dakars to the test this weekend...

I'll be installing the AAL probably next weekend but I think I'm gonna have to start thinking about a different leaf spring in the not too distant future...

I still need to write up my notes to make your life easier since that process is fresh in my mind.... BUT if you don't already have a step bit, you'll want to pick one up to drill a relocated hole for the OEM bump stops due to the leaf spring pin being moved with the axle relocation plate.

Also, PRO TIP for not fucking up the rear shackles: Remove the outer nuts from top and bottom and just remove the entire outer shackle plate, then slide the rear of the leaf spring off.

Just up to Rampart. We have a large group going so I figured it was a good excuse to get the bike out.

Hmm I didn't even consider the bumpstops moving with the relocation plates. I actually have some durobumps that I was gonna install at the same time. Hopefully it isn't too much of a pain in the ass...

I didn't consider it either, but I was lucky that I was at my friends place that had a drill press and step bit that I could just NOM NOM NOM into the OEM bumpstops and make it work.

Send me or post a photo of the bottom of those durabumps and I'll tell you if you'll have a headache in the future...

Yep, you'll have a headache. Since the square u-bolts site in the same position BUT you'll be moving the leaf springs, the top of the bolt holding the leaf pack together will want to go into a hole that doesn't exist... Here's what I did: aligned the relocation plate to the bumpstop and marked where the 3/4" relocation hole was on each bump stop. Then I drilled. Walked over and tested if my hole was big enough, went back to the drill press and went to the next step. Repeat until new hole in bump stop fits over bolt. If you're going to be replacing the leaf springs soon, I'd probably wait on installing the durabumps in the rear to not drill them since it seems like it's only the OME Dakar leaf springs that put our axles in the wrong spot... Likely your new Alcan (guessing) leaf pack will be positioned correctly and you can install the durabumps and remove the axle relocation plate.

Ignore that in my photo compilation I am showing the 1" relocation hole being used. I actually rotated the plate and used the 3/4" hole (which I'd recommend you use). 3/4" is almost too much relocation for my truck with 32's and I think 1/2" relocation would have been ideal for me. Oh well.

Well that's annoying... Maybe I'll just not use the relocation plate. The worst rubbing I get is the tire on the hex head screws that hold the flare on. I might try replacing those with some pan head ones that have a shorter head, or just remove the ones that rub. Got some thinking to do, I guess...

I was hoping to hold off on my full suspension redo until I have a welder so I can do the shock relocation and reinforcements myself. I'd like to move to hydrobumps at that time as well.

Just gonna dump some pictures here from this weekend's trip.

Ended up just camping around Rainbow Falls again. Although this time we actually did some wheeling. Hit up Metberry Gulch. That's a fun trail. I can't wait to explore some more of the gulch trails around there.

    Thanks! It's a Sony A7 with a 50mm f/1.8

I'm really trying to find my way into an A7iii with a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 but I have so many stupid expensive hobbies I dunno what to do...

Nice! Don't even get me drooling over the A7iii... Too expensive for my blood though.

I just recently switched over to mirrorless myself. Panasonic GX85. Definitely love how light and compact they are compared to DSLRs. Was gonna go with the Sony a6000, but that mirco four-thirds lens collection tho...

Tackled the D43XL AAL install today. Ended up being pretty easy but took a while because a lot of beer and bullshit was involved...

I could definitely use a bigger garage. But it was nice to find out my truck can fit in the garage and have the garage door close with room to work.

Used the #overlanding fridge for beers and stuff...

Leaf pack out and separated... gross

Ended up spending the time to pressure wash and scrub each leaf down with simple green

After cleaning each leaf, I coated each of them with Boeshield T-9 lubricant. I read that it's a great product that should provide lubrication for a few months, and it's easy to apply. We'll see how it goes.

    This stuff:

And my friends who came to help but ended up just watching Formula Drift... :rain:

Spring reinstalled, all clean, and with the new DuroBumps.

And like the idiot I am, I didn't bother taking any before measurements so I'll have no idea how much additional lift the AAL provided. But, it looks better :notsure:
