Some of the comments are priceless. Like good old Joel who appears to be a Ridgeline owner saying that a CRV is more capable...

The guys racing the king of the Hammers climb some serious stuff, how do they ensure that engine oil stays where they need it? Or is it just different engine design ?

you are right with most of it being full on custom builds, but they do have one class for fairly stock vehicles. The 4600 class

4600: Pro Comp Stock ClassThis class has been racing in ULTRA4 since 2012. It is one of the 4 classes that races on Thursday of KOH week during the Smittybilt Every Man Challenge. Currently, these cars do not have to qualify to race in the EMC race during KOH Week. At regional races, this class usually races with either the 4500 or 4800 cars.

    Class Characteristics:

    • Stock OEM Frame
    • Factory Engine
    • Factory Transmission
    • 35” DOT approved tires
    • Single 2.5 inch diameter shocks per corner
    • Mechanical Steering

If he flooded his engine he would have for sure started a website:

‘Was just driving my 80 series through 9” of water, now the thing is FUBAR. Damn you Toyota! Do NOT buy a land cruiser!’

They put Polytron in their engines and throw the drain plug away.

I have the last 2 bottles in existence. The owners of Slick 50 had the Polytron guys snuffed. Same crew that did Biggy and Tupac. CIA hushed it up, because Mobil 1 owns the CIA........hold on.....there’s the doorbell....

It was a very large backpack that he seemed to throw with quite a lot of force.

It’s okay, it was just a buddy reminding me to keep quiet about the Polytron.

The truck is capable of off roading. We all know that. Except offroading is a very broad range and the tacoma was designed with only certain areas of that range in mind. The shocks work well on washboard and washed out roads and the diff lock is great when things get loose. It wasn't designed for a river crossing or to climb the steepest hills. I'm almost tempted to say it's still a holdout from when prerunners and desert trucks were king and over landing and trail rigs werent really a thing except for jeeps and Landovers or really beat old Toyotas modified beyond all recognition. To not understand the limitations of a stock vehicle and to push it past those is idiotic at the least. I'm not going to get into a fit with Toyota because my truck can't go rock hopping or race king of the hammers or Baja without falling apart. Those are all offroading but just not the intended level of it. If I wanted to do any of the above then I would modify my rig as such to match. Obviously he didn't care to do so and somehow Toyota is responsible.

Industry research shows that owners wouldn't care if their Taco couldn't climb a 5% grade, if they could just get a power passenger seat and Carplay.
