    Hi,

I managed to break off my brake switch today with my big foot. I've searched for the last hour on how to remove what is left of it and have come up empty. I read where someone said to loosen the brown plastic nut that holds it to the pedal bracket. Someone else said to turn it 1/4 turn and it comes out. I guess that would all work if it was in one piece. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't touch the nut. Simply grab the sensor with connector attached and twist out like you would a bottle cap.

When you reinstall make sure the clearance works with the sensitivity of the brake lights.

The problem is that the sensor is no longer connected to the nut, the plastic broke off up inside of that nut and the sensor switch fell on the floor. Cheap plastic garbage they make everything out of breaks if you look at it wrong. I think I'm going to have to use needle nose pliers and see if I can't get those pieces out without damaging anything else.

You’re in luck. I had the exact same issue.

I had to go in with a dremel and cut off wheel. You need to grind off what’s left of the sensor “leg”, the brown piece, once you do, the bit that remains attached to the plastic nut will slide out the top, above the hole it goes through.

Unfortunately you will have to grind it off blind. Or at least I did. A bit painstaking but easy enough.

Thanks, I'll try that and you're right about being blind, I had to use my phone to take a picture just to be able to see what broke.

I managed to grind that piece off and get it to come out the top. Hopefully I didn't damage the inside of the nut too bad. Thanks for the info, you saved me a lot of trouble!

Happy to help. Always is rewarding to help out other guys working on this truck.

When I bought my new sensor it also came with a new nut... yours did not?

I had to order it from Auto zone, so I wasn't sure if it would come with one or not but it did. I was able to use the old one, so the new one is in the glove box if I ever need one.

I know this was awhile ago you guys discussed, but have the same problem. Do you think a screw extractor would get the remaining parts inside/above the nut out? Mine broke off almost flush at the brown piece

You could certainly try that. I can visualize that working. Did you already try going in blind with a dremel in an attempt to grind enough of the brown sh!t off so it will come out?

I did not since I don’t have a dremel haha... that would be the next step but I’m thinking this will get inside the plastic and keep the brown mount in tact

Welp - got the EZ Out stuck in the slot. Plastic is cracked the entire length of the way of what’s left and can’t get EZ Out back out. Yikes.

Thanks for all who have contributed to this thread. I replaced my brake sensor switch today. Like the OP I managed to break mine of with my foot. It slipped of of the clutch when the bottom of my winter boot was packed with snow.

My experience in getting out the broken switch was slightly different however. I used a small plier to remove the broken bit. There was just enough of the broken piece sticking out for me to get purchase on it. A quarter turn and the broken bits slid right out
