ECU App

I've done a good bit of research on this subject but am just wondering if there is a chip or something I can plug into my ECU to just read the vitals and the rpms and such of my engine without buying a 500 dollar performance chip that doesn't work on our older trucks. (From what I have read, they don't do anything noticeable to the performance) I just want a monitoring system I can use an app with to keep things cheaper

What about something like this? I was able to find it off the link you gave me for the previous scanner. Maybe an app that works best with this scanner that shows everything I would like?

 

If you just want to display on your phone, get one of these. I have had one for 2 yrs and have tried it on Fords, Toyota, Dodge, and Chrysler.
Download "Toque Lite" free software to make it work. You can upgrade to a fuller version of the software for like $25.00. I got the upgraded software after using the Lite version. Both are good.

That would work to for you, cheaper and you could use you’re phone like you wanted to. Both are good products. I have the scan gauge my self in my truck. And I have another one for when people need to read a code

Scanguage is definitely a good product too. Everybody who has one seems to like them. Just depends on your budget and plan for it.

 

Well depending on how much i like torque lite, ill look into scangauge and the future, for now I just want to experiement with reading what my truck is doing. we all know 1st gens dont have many gauges in the dash

 

What I like about the Toque software is how I can configure the gauges that are displayed. You can pick data & gauge type and group whatever gauges you want on each screen. Then a swipe left to move to the next screen full of gauges. Very simple to set up too.

 

Perfect, that actually answers a question I was just going to try and found out! Does that apply with the lite software as well as the premium?

 

I honestly can't remember what was on the Lite version vs full, but the upgrade is very cheap as I said, maybe $25...?

That's exactly what I use and it allows the vitals to be monitored. You'll be good with that OBD2 plug in for what you're looking to do right now

 

I just opened the Lite version on my phone. You can modify it some. It has the following gauges pre-loaded:
Accel
Timing Advance
RPM
Throttle
Coolant
Intake
MAF
Load
MPG
O2Sensor 1
Speed
Short Term Fuel Trim1

Of course, depends on your model year truck (what sensors are onboard) as to how much of that works.

I use torque and my only real complaint is the refresh rate is a bit slow. I do have quite a tablet screen full of guage though.
