if the dealer sells used modded Tacoma's see if the price is adjusted for any of the mods. dealers here in Hawaii give you the bs about how you wont get any extra value for your modded truck but then turn around and jack up the price for said modds when they resell the same modded truck. so if you and the dealership know they can make extra money on it push them for more for the trade in, however like previously stated you will NOT get anything close to what the modds actually cost you.

I am amazed that some folks go out and mod their Taco with thousands of $$ with mods and then think a dealer with give them what they paid for the truck, plus the cost of the mods....
Dealers will more likely want a stock vehicle than a modded one, and if they do take a one in trade, they will give you no real value for those mods you spent $$ on.
To find the right buyer that likes all those mods just the way they are, and will take the price they are asking for, can be a long wait for that person to show up on the lot.

When i worked for my Dad's used car lot we wanted as close to stock as possible. Its hard to sell something thats modded. You can never tell the quality of those mods and the quality of the workmanship that went into installing them. Things like nice leather seat covers (clazzio, katskin etc), floor mats, window tint and things like that are good to have. But the other stuff we usually took off before trying to resell them.

Speaking from experience. I traded in my second to last car with a few mods left on it, (wheels, full exhaust, some body work etc..) and they didn't question it. The only thing they wanted was the original down pipe back so that they can legally sell it here in California. They said they send modified cars straight to auction in most cases unless the mods are extremely minor. Of course I didn't get a penny for the mods but they didn't lower the price either for being modified.

If you trade 2 goats do you get twice the value? or is a declining unit value for each goat?

Sounds like what my Toyota dealer did with my Jeep Wrangler.

They took my 2018 Rubicon Recon --which is like Wrangler's version of a Pro-- with 8,400 miles, a 2" Mopar lift, 35" tires, a Warn Zeon 10 winch, etc. and parked it out front with a $47,000 sticker!

Never mind that you can buy a brand-new 2019 JL Rubicon for that much.

The Jeep has been sitting there for 7 weeks. The price went from $47,000, to $45,000...last time I checked it was sitting there at $43,500

Yeah I might try to take off some of the easy stuff but I would basically be willing to sacrifice any potential extra value I could get from parting out or private sale for the convenience of just driving it to the dealer as is and getting the truck I want without having to wheel and deal with you people or go down the craigslist rabbit hole

They do,BUT they will give you nothing more price wise for the mods.In other words a guy trading in a stock truck will get the same money for his as you will with tons of money wrapped up in mods.

Private party all the way unless its not paid off. List a little high and just ignore the lowballs. Or you can take the easy way out and lose a bunch of money.
Dealer offered me $3000 for my 1st gen sold it in less then two days on CL for $6000. Tacomas are a pretty easy sell if you actually sell them reasonably.

Check out Carvana. Not sure if they take modded vehicles but when I got my old Forester appraised they offered high KBB trade in for it... that's $3-4k more than all of the dealers were willing to give me for it. They also make it super simple. No BS... even offer to pick your car up at your house. Check is cut on the spot.

Dealerships generally make more money on used sales than on new. They lowball you on your trade in by a couple of grand and then sell it for a profit, (unless it’s a clunker, then they will wholesale it out). When I was in high school I worked at a dealership and the salesman were beyond slimy, they would have stolen candy from a baby and charged the mom a dollar!

    A few.
There are some car lots (used) that seem to specialize in modified/lifted vehicles. I have a couple in my area that seem to have a continuious supply of that type of vehicle on the lot.

Yes they will, but they wont give you a penny for what you paid. I kept everything thats come off of my truck since I began modding, except for the bumper parts I had to cut. If I do decide to sell it (yea right) I would offer 2 prices, one with everything on it or one where I put it back to stock for them. Maybe Ill throw in the raptor grill, the spacers I used to have and the old hoop steps, but fuck you you aint having my sliders and bumper for free. Why not just take everything off?

I might add that I would not pay extra for those things on another persons vehicle. Atleast nothing significant.
