Actually the LS truck engines are iron blocks with aluminum heads.
The newer version is all aluminum.

I heartily approve of your post.

I own three Toyotas - four if you count the 2012 Tacoma that is my son's, but that I technically own. So I officially consider myself a fanboy.

    Which means I have a 3.5, two 4.0s and a 4.5.

...and I will be the first to tell you that all three engines have several things in common:

    1. They are weak.
    2. They are thirsty.
    3. They are reliable.
    4. They are not fun to drive.
    5. Knock on wood, they have never let me down.
    6. None of them are fucking truck motors.

So while I'm a Toyota fanboy, I am a realist, not an apologist.

The real fanboys and apologists are the cement heads who somehow identify the 2nd gens greatness with the 4.0 motor......or the people who keep spouting off about how great the 22R was or, fuck me, the 20R.

Psst: the 4.0 is as big a milquetoast turd as any other Toyota engine.

    Deal with it.

My buddy has a 4.0 with aftermarket headers, exhaust, air filter.

160k miles, has never broke down on him, 3 inch lift on 33s and it fucking flies

I understand it’s not a porsche cayenne, but the 4.0 is plenty fast imo. Not sure why ppl are saying it’s a dog. I personally dont think it is. My 2.7 crew cab is a dog. The 4.0 2nd gen is money as far as I’m concerned.

He clearly was not happy with its performance, hence the headers, air filter, exhaust.

What are you going on about? I have a feeling that you don't actually know that much about the law. I suppose that I could take the website's complaint more seriously if he actually showed more correspondence with his dealer than an edited photo of an e-mail. Why no work orders? Did the service writer not give him any paperwork after their inspection? I feel as though this man is being very selective in the details he is releasing.

^I talked with the guy via pm and he has a legit gripe, but he also thinks making a website is the best way to go about this, which is totally untrue (Toyota doesn't give a crap about his website). I told him to get a lawyer because nothing soothes rage like cold hard cash, but he wouldn't listen. So I don't know what else to say.

No, I don't think so. I basically think he just flipped out over the whole experience. But I can't elaborate, I don't know the guy. Sounds like a dude who literally takes stuff like advertisements completely literally and blows his top when he finds out that guess what, manufacturers exaggerate as much as they can legally get away with.

So he's a man-child that's complaining to the entire world but is unwilling to show the documentation that the service writer and technicians gave him? Why would he only show us an edited photo of an e-mail as his "proof"?

It's possible. I don't know his story. The fact that he could quit his job to do whatever travelling he was doing certainly points in that direction. I think he really just wants to complain, and not necessarily get a resolution of any kind.

I'm sort of guessing he's a tech/software programmer type of guy. I know some, and while they are greased lightning behind a computer screen, they are totally inept in the real world. Not all are like that, but many are.

I mean yeah, but with the right setup that motor is pretty damn quick, and still reliable. It’s not like he supercharged it either.
