I just bought a new 2019 Tacoma TRD off road. It is my first truck.
I had the oem soft tonneau cover installed at the dealership, and now am planning a three week tour of Atlantic Canada. It is an access cab, hence I have limited space in the cabin for things.

What is the most efficient and practical method used to keep your items from jostling around the bed? Bungee cords? Plastic bins? Advice please.

A Bed Mat will go a long ways in keeping things in their place.

A bed mat? Yes, never thought of that. Simple, should I get an oem, or after market?

That collapsible crate is also perfect...the salesman had recommended an oem divider...but in Canada, they are very expensive...this is great...thanks all

OEM would be my pick. Mine has been pretty durable and its ability to keep things in place is outstanding.

OEM costs more, but is VERY high quality. I've seen someone use a $30 restaurant floor mat (the one with 1" drain holes) and cut it to fit, but he had an open bed and needed it drain.

It really depends on your preference and your funds. My dealership price matched TRDParts4U.com, so I got my 6' bed mad for $99 at the time.

I didn't really shop around, so not sure price differences going after-market, but for around a hundred bucks the OEM mat is pretty rad. Nice and thick, very durable, and super-grippy. Hard to beat really, and very handy to have.

D rings in the bed bolts and bed stiffeners for extra tie down points. You can then use a cheap bed net(s) or straps to tie stuff down, if needed.

The stop bar @CaptAmerica mentions is useful to restrict lighter things from tipping.

But I use an adjustable spring loaded shower rod with soft rubber caps on the ends that you can sometimes find at garage sales or thrift stores for a buck or two.

But I don't use it a lot, and I'm more frugal than the Captain is. :anonymous:

My wife bought me the bar, but I could see a shower bar working too. Mine has a cargo net attached to it that allows me to slide a telescoping ladder under the bar, yet it still stops the cargo boxes.

Correction. I'm more frugal than the Captain's wife!

This has been very helpful, thank you. Nice to encounter people on the internet who aren’t bent on ruining your day with relentless negativity and self loathing (twitter). I am really liking this truck, it is an upgrade from the rav4, and matrix before that....I will buy the oem mat, and use both the straps and collapsing boxes, and possibly a cargo bar....another question stemming from my truck ignorance...will the mat work with an existing bedliner?

It would. But you don't have a bedliner. Tacomas since '05 all have composite beds.

Thanks, that composite bed has bruised my 60 year old knees...the bed mat will be worth it just to stop me howling whenever I crawl back there

That should be the #1 reason to have the bed mat. Steel is softer than those composite beds!

Enjoy your truck, and have a great trip!

It will get worse with time and other activities. Might as well bite the bullet now.

Also you might enjoy under rail bed lighting from @mattgecko

Keep an eye on Amazon CA for the cargo divider, it fluctuates between $250 all the way to $600 on there. I snapped mine up for $250 Prime brand new.
