That’s why in my opinion having the tunes laid out like...
    Towing 87,91,93
    Gas mileage 87,91,93
    Send it!!! 93

Then we won’t have people with different purposes trying to use the same tunes for something different lol

But tunes are effectively already organized like that. It isn't hard to infer that Base is probably more fuel efficient than Performance, for example, or that you want to use Performance/Gear Lock/FOB for towing.

We just can’t assume every understands that base is better for this
    Mids for that
    Performance for performance.
Because when I read performance I don’t associate that with towing at all. Some from what I can see just upload the highest level based off well it being the best quality fuel or just that it’s the highest tune etc. just reading through over 2,000 threads it’s all I can see that keeps happening with what folks want out of the tune. It’s kind of confusing to follow. I completely understand what Mat is trying to do with this transmission and I hope he is successful.

I would think that you're actually in the minority in that you don't assume a more capable and powerful map (as is implied by the word performance) would be more appropriate for towing, something that would require more capability and power.

As for the people who just flash the highest performing map, yes, that happens. And these issues are because people cannot reach simple conclusions when it comes to these maps, and whine when the first map they flash doesn't yield the desired results, without even trying others that may make more sense.

The list is simple. Don't reinvent the wheel. Plus, you could rename the maps as you suggest and it would never be simple enough. There will be another random person to take your place and suggest that your list of simplicity was too complicated. The list isn't the problem. People are the problem, and that can't be helped, so no need to waste more time there.

No doubt someone else would want to throw in another idea of how to list the maps. It was a conversation starter. It’s all about simplicity to understand what you are uploading and complexity of the actual tuning.
The google definition of “performance” is of course as you state but with using other tuners with other vehicle brands everything we have ever done with tow files from my perspective are going to be much more conservative overall to be able to deal with higher longer term loads then a performance file. So there are significant differences between the two.

But but but I run Performance and it still shifts too high and lugs at low RPMs. Then when I need to go faster it doesn't like to downshift then when it does, it downshifts too much. :/

Why not run in S3 or S4 and not experience the "lug".

I have been on 93GL for a few thousand miles now. I leave ect on all the time. In D the truck shifts great until it gets into 4.Then it shifts too fast into 5 and lugs. I just run in gearlock in town most of the time and this is great. On the fwy I use D/ect and if I run into a big hill I bump it over to S.It will go automatically to 4 and I can run up anything but mountain climbs at 70mph in gearlock4 at about 2800rpms. I realize this is not a good way to drive for mpg’s but I don’t drive as many miles as most of you. The truck is pretty much a kick in the ass to drive this way. At least for me

That lug was said/supposed to be fixed in 1.05, but it’s still very apparent. I recently installed SSP for the lugging issue, only have a few miles on it but it seems to work pretty nicely keeping the truck from lugging in 5th at 35mph. I have it set on #2 right now so it will not shift into 5th until 52mph. MPG is slightly effected, but I still average 18 on 33’s so I’m ok with that.

I have hope I can ditch it when 2.0 arrives, but I’m not counting my chickens.

Understood. Was just trying to avoid the dealership because they have been a pain since purchase (service side anyways). Will try to explain what I'm experiencing to them one last time before I flash the tab myself.

I’d save the time and effort and do it yourself. It’s pretty easy and there’s a ton of people here that have done it and can assist.

Would have been nice to know this? Instead of just sitting here waiting for 04B03 to be updated like the others were. I guess now I need to contact Toyota and try to get them to upgrade to 04B04.

The first versions did, and I specifically remember the flood of people hating the rpm being too high (at 2000?) Or where shifting at 2000 rpm was too much.

I don't want it to lug, but don't want it to shift at high rpm of 2000. ( you didn't say that, but it was the general complaint )

    It's in this thread.

It won't be possible to convince people that this engine has to rev to do anything. Shifting slightly over 2000 makes a nice drive, but people were firmly against it. Therefore, some lugging may still exist.

Cool. Maybe this next year you can learn not to rush to judgement.

I personally hate how early it shifts up. On the highway I usually lock into S5, S4 for hills and S6 only on flats and downhills, otherwise the shifting is retarted, and this is with 4.88 gears, get 17.5 ave mpg calculated at every fill up.

Can anyone weigh in on 91 vs 93? Base vs base and perf vs perf? I’m at 91 base and wondering if 93 is worth the hassle of flashing and running tank down and filling up and relearning

So I had code P2119 active and truck went into limp mode twice now.

Turns out it was sticking throttle body and dealer replaced it under warranty. Said they haven’t seen it at all on the Tacoma’s, but plenty on the 4Runners.

Thought they would reprogram the truck. But they didn’t. Yey for OVTune.
