I got rid of my 2015 Honda Civic Si to get into the Taco. I did do a test drive but I think as you drive the vehicle more, you start noticing things that you didn't during the test drive. I still have the Tacoma now but I'm definitely considering trading for the 2020 4Runner. I wish I'd kept the Civic until the 2020s came out but I got a little impatient. I'm going to see what my trade in would look like too. If the hit is too big, I might just keep the Taco. Trying to sell privately now but I only get lowball offers.

oh, i gotcha. gotta do what makes you happy! there is this thing called pedal commander that supposedly cures the issue. i had something like it in my 2013 patriot manual 4x4 called sprint booster. it made a HUGE improvement. huge! the jeep felt like a totally different animal in a good way. i did have throttle body issues after install, like 10k miles later or so, and i am not sure if the sprint booster caused that or it was jsut a bad throttle body- lots on the patriots have bad throttle bodies around the time when mine went bad so it could have been just a coincidence. point is, for $250 you can install one in 5 minutes and see if it helps you and if not send it back- they have like a 14 day return policy i think. It may surprise you. It won't void any warranty stuff supposedly, but i'd remove it before taking it in for service anyhow.

    Excellent post!!

I have a truck, I'm not a truck guy (whatever that is) Certainly not a Ford or Toyota guy...or Chevy, I buy the best product on the market at the time. I have a Vette and a Harley I am neither a Vette guy or Harley Biker....Today's trucks are cars with a bed and truck frame.

That's the way I like it,

I will try that out! I also don't want to take another financial hit so maybe that'll make it better. My friends think I'm being ridiculous changing cars so often LOL. So that makes me want to just hold on to the Tacoma a bit longer sometimes.

It's rediculous isn't it? Lol Folks are so inclined to squeeze into a little box it's sickening. I remember my uncle's giving me hell for riding my Harley XL1200 while wearing a full face Arai helmet and mesh suits. I never let it bother me for looking odd. When I got to South Dakota I was checking all the nuts and bolts on my bike in the only shade tree i could find and a group of outlaw bikers known as the Hells Angels stopped to see if I was okay. We smoked a cigarette and jaw jacked for a bit. They told me some cool stories, and started poking to see what I had gone through. I told them about heading north from bama, rebuilding the top end at a stranger's farm in Iowa, and camping off my bike for two weeks straight to make it to Sturgis. They were all giving me ata boys and saying how I was a real biker. They gave me an address near Rapid City and a phone number if I had any more trouble while I was out west. We parted ways and that's the kind of stuff that buying a $2000 questionably sound motorcycle and striking across the continent will get you into.

I love that song by Jimy Hendrix "Have you ever been experienced?". Pretty deep stuff

I love the Vette and the Heritage. Those are two machines I could get behind on a abandoned mountain pass and have the time of my life with.

    Chears!

i know about swapping out cars. I ditched a ticking/rattling 2019 mustang gt performance pack in trade for my taco. only had it 6 months. i liked the car but learned 2 things. 1) i don't really need a sports car and am not rich enough to just have one that costs 45k new for the sole purpose of having one in my garage. I don't like to go fast that much. 2) it was good for me to ditch it while it was still worth enough as trade and before the motor would blow even though Ford says all the noises are normal- yeah and there are 5.0 2018s and 2019s blowing left and right.

the taco checks off a few more boxes than the mustang-
    1) another 4x4 for going to my mountain and going back to cape lookout.
    2) a pickup so i can haul some stuff on occasion
    3) toyoter (yes i said toyoter) quality and reliability- it "should" last me for a good solid 10+ years or more as it's not my daily.

i removed my rear seat bottoms for more inside storage space as it's only usually me and my SO. Kids all grown and on the rare occasion i want to take the taco and haul another person or 2, i can bolt the seat bottoms back in, in about 15 minutes.

Sweet build my man. I've been eye balling those Jackson SC kits. fFlyin'Miata makes one now. Please tell me you are going to "Miatas at the Gap" this year. There's also another rally in your neck of the woods, but I didn't make it last year. I'll be at MATG this year for sure .

I'll be in Spain during MATG this year, maybe next year.

My S/C is a prototype of the FFS coldside when it came out in 2005, originally marketed through BRP. Its one of the original 25 installed with over 100k miles on it now, the blower is an MP62 Magnuson blower .

The thing is bulletproof and drives like a stock NB with a deeper gas pedal and pushes you back into the seat. It wont set your hair on fire like a sport bike but for a Miata its damn fun!

When I pop this motor I'll put an LS2 into it. That's why I go to Spain, it pays for the real toy in the garage.

Anyone can own a Corvette, but its cooler to have a Corvette powered Miata.

    That's the eventual goal.

    ;)

I dont really know how I set you off on such a tangent but I'll stand by my comment and say that there are definitely "truck" people and "car" people but there are certainly those in between as well. I'm obviously overgeneralizing this entire subject but I'm typing on a phone in a forum so dont find the need to over explain anything. I'm happy that you are able to afford several vehicles in order to drive what you would like each day, no matter your mood. Not a lot of us have that luxury. Thank your families service.

i had a '15 gti 6MT before my current taco 6MT. i love the truck for dirt roads and loading surfboards and bikes in the back but man i miss the sporty handling of the little gti and that thing had the nicest transmission ever.

id so have a golf R if i could afford it. those are such sweet little hatches and have fairly spacious interiors with the back seats folded down. i never ran into an issue with the gti space when i had a roof rack on it. the gti was very quick, and the golf R would rip!

I traded my 2009 DCSB in on a 2008 Dodge ram 2500 Cummins. For some reason I am back in a Tacoma, however it is a 2013 model. I wanted a new one but just decided that I wanted my cash more. I actually could have bought a new on with cash the day after I bought my 2013 but am happy with my 2013 and have dumped that money into a new house I am building instead.

I could see there being city folks, and country folks, But this truck or car mentality just doesn't work. I've known some of the hardest working men or women in the world, and they wouldn't give a damn how they got from point A to B so long as they got there. I could see you saying that there are people that need a truck more then a car. Sure, okay I would go with that, but your language is making it sound more like people are segregating themselves from on another by what they drive. If that is so, those people are clearly douche bags, and those are the type of loosers our country could do without. It's the same as a douche that rolls coal on a fella in a hybrid, or the same as a guy who picks on another guy because they sold their truck for a sports car.

The OP was stating that they wanted something more fun. Many Americans are efficient enough at managing their finances that they are able to have more than one vehicle that are in good condition and paid for. It is quite possible to live this way if you make good decisions in regards to how your money is spent, and do your own wrenching. Things that make it easy are choosing a career that pays well, avoiding having the newest vehicles, avoiding loans, avoiding boats and other expensive toys till all your other debts are paid. It's not like I came out of high school and had 3 cars. I started out with a 25 year old Toyota pickup that I paid $600 for. After years of hard work and saving I am able to have essentially what I want. Granted there are thousands of TW members that make more than me, have more than me, speak better than I do, but the whole point of this is that I don't care what they have. Instead of looking at a person driving a car and seeing a car person I see an American. I have no idea what they are going home to, or what experiences they've had in life. For me to assume such just because of that would make me an asshole.

I had a 16 as well and no “tick”. That damn motor is one of the best things going. Another poster talked about his being a “one trick pony”. It was. Now this new one with the magnetic suspension? That sounds fantastic. I guess you can compare it to a Tacoma tho...pricey, very simple interior, and manual “is better”. Only thing I miss about the Mustang is that insane, go fast, burn rubber, pass anything, POWER!

Intelligent post. In fact, I got rid of my wifes ‘16 4Runner because it couldnt make it up the Gravevine (I5 from Central Cali) without hitting 3rd gear at 6000rpm(and that was the revered 4.0). That just drove me crazy and it was enough. Great design, features, cool factor?? Hell yeah, but I’m “picky” that way. And I think that may be another difference on forums. Some “deal” with the idiosyncratic behavior, and some don’t. Plus, I like buying cars, it’s a sickness. There are so many factors involved. Toyotas are quality, they have amazing resale, and they last. No doubt about it. So far I am hanging onto this 2018 Tacoma, as the pluses far outweigh the negatives. I would guess the biggest “apologists” here are true Tacoma owners, that will never own any other truck. And that is just fine.

Wow. Be careful... Just another good reason to leave the land of fruits and nuts and come on over to TN!Thanks buddy! Dont worry. I’m not one of “them”...
This was good information as well. As I generally trade in or private sell vehicles every 6-12 months. I’m getting old, gotta drive ‘em all!
