What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I have ratcheting wrenches with swivel heads but I couldn't get one on there, it's an extremely tight fit high up inside the fender.

Although I was cleaning the inside of my door jambs the other day and noticed I could see the bolt pretty clearly with the door open from inside, with an extension I might be able to get to it that way.

If you have small hands/arms you could probably get to it by reaching up from under the fender using your fingers to thread it on

 

Couldn't bring yourself to drill/rivet the a-pillar huh? haha I don't blame you on that either, I riveted mine but it's definitely a commitment once you punch holes in the a-pillar.

I know a few guys used heavy duty tape on theirs in the ebay thread, I would just worry about the outdoor elements eventually weakening it and causing it to come loose/wobble around on the highway or something.

 

Removing the bottom fender bolt helps as well. Will give you a bit more room as the fender will be able to pull away toward you (slightly!).

 

I'll have to look up this Gorilla tape, I used some of the 10lb 3M tape to hold up a small motion sensor (not even 1lb) outside our front door (wife wouldn't let me put a tiny wood screw in the porch...) and the damn thing let go not even 2 days later lol.

 

I bet you could put a riv nut in that so you wouldn’t have to get up behind the fender to put a bolt in.

 

Craftsman makes an open end ratchet wrench. I personally haven't used them yet but it saved my roommate some time on his sas 4r calipers bolts.

 

Is it gimmicky if it works?

ever think they were tried before? I ordered an extra long flex head ratcheting wrench specifically to try and get that top nut onto the bolt. Problem with it is as you try to persuade the wrench to fit (after painfully using your fingers only to try and position the nut), the wrench will flex and its impossible as the nut will drop. Trust me on this... Why I ended up removing that bottom fender bolt. Once removed and the fender slightly pulled away from the truck, I was able to thread the nut by hand and slip a wrench over it to torque it down.

I do have the upgraded harness with the heavy duty relays and I originally the Hella E-code lamps, just wanted to upgrade to black chrome for the look. I found Lasfit Auto Lighting and going to try their LED h4 bulbs out with my original black chrome housings and if it doesn't do anything for me I will put he Hella housings back in. Wish me luck!
