Last night, the check engine light went on on my 2006 Toyota Tacoma with 152K miles. When I got home, I plugged in my OBDII code reader and got

    P0348-camshaft-sensor.jpg

Does this mean I just need to replace one of my camshaft position sensors because they expired due to regular wear and tear (the truck is no spring chicken) or should I diagnose for a deeper root cause? Does it make sense to just order a replacement sensor and see if that will shut the check engine light? Should I just replace both sensors since one expiring might be a good indicator the other won't last too much longer?

It was one wire right on top of the motor. I had to take the intake off but other than that no big deal. I will not be going back to Toyota of Dallas

I would inspect my wiring to the Cam Sensors carefully for rodent damage.

    DESCRIPTION
The Variable Valve Timing (VVT) sensor (VV signal) consists of a magnet, iron core and pickup coil. The VV signal plate has 3 teeth on its outer circumference and is installed on the camshaft timing pulley. When the camshafts rotate, the protrusion on the signal plate and the air gap on the pickup coil change, causing fluctuations in the magnetic field and generating a voltage in the pickup coil. This sensor monitors a timing rotor located on the camshaft and is used to detect the camshaft angle by the ECM. The camshaft rotation synchronizes with the crankshaft rotation, and this sensor communicates the rotation of the camshaft timing rotor as a pulse signal to the ECM. Based on this signal, the ECM controls fuel injection time and ignition timing.

P0348 Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit High Input (Bank 2)

    Detection Condition:

Output voltage of VVT sensor 4.7 V or more for 5 seconds (1 trip detection logic).

    Causes:
•Open or short in VVT sensor circuit
    •VVT sensor
    •Camshaft timing pulley
    •Jumped tooth of timing chain
    •ECM

Yes. Labelled "VVT Sensor ( Bank 1) and VVT Sensor ( Bank 2)" in the image below.

Thanks found it and of course it's the hardest one. I started a thread. Wires cut. Going to be a pain unless I can source a plug with some wires to splice. Thanks
