I used this thread to install my the kit with front cam and switch 2 months ago and it’s been working great until today.

When I use the switch to select the rear cam or when I just shift into reverse I just get a black screen until I use the switch to select the front cam which does come on than back to rear cam and than the rear cam will work. If I’m in reverse than I have to switch from off position to front than back to off or rear and than the rear cam works.

Sometimes the rear cam will come on for a second than get fuzzy and go black but usually it’s just a black screen. After selecting the front first to make it work I can go straight to rear and it will work like normal for a few minutes than back the black screen a I have to select front cam first again.

Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Maybe a bad relay or switch?

    Thanks.

I mounted mine on the bar so I could adjust it's view and not be blocked by the tube .

I wonder if your relay has gone bad? Is your front camera power connected 100% of the time, or just when actuated by the relay?

If you open the dash up to where the relay is, does it actuate (click) when you flip the switch? That will help isolate if it’s the switch or relay.

I will try that out a little later today. I will update with my results. I also emailed Brain at ATBC so I’m sure he will replay next week.

    Thanks Man!

What would be required to mount the switch in the useless cubby by the steering wheel?

I would lean towards a cubby switch plate, a number of companies sell them, I got mine from @CaliRaisedLed. Very easy to install
I put my camera switch where the OEM alarm thingy would be824ABB46-1AC5-4A39-9F4A-879B6BFFEE31.jpg

Was there enough wire to reach the cubby or did u do some extending?

I also went with a product from forty2skates. I got one with two switch holes, one for the camera selection and one for the navigation over-ride, which I chose to use a flux capacitor switch for.

Did you diagnose the issue yet? I wonder if the terminals on the relay are loose

Not yet. I’ve been busy with work. I was waiting to here back from Brain. I sent a new email through the website. First email I sent was a reply from a previous email so maybe he didn’t get it.

I’ll check it tomorrow after work.

    Thanks

I just pulled the head unit out to check the relay and when I select the front camera the relay does click. When I go back to off coming from front cam the relay clicks again.

When I go to rear cam there is no click. Also no sound when I go from rear back to off.

I’m not sure if that’s normal or not. I did here back from Mat so I’ll let him know the symptoms.

I found this an it looks to be the same relay so I will just order them and see.

Update: I forgot to mention that the rear cam was functioning correctly again before I pulled the head unit to test the relay. After putting it back together it still working so I haven’t tested the new relay to see if it clicks. I only drive the truck on weekends so haven’t used the cameras much.

If it starts acting up again I will test the new relay and update.
