Alarm System - Will Not Return To Normal (Gulf States Toyota Alarm)

I just pulled my entire dealer/distributor installed Audiovox alarm system, took hours to get to all of its tentacles, but I feel way better having that 20 year old Chinese junk out of there. My truck did the same thing I unhooked battery and then alarm went nuts when I hooked it back up. The Audiovox type were installed for southern distributed Toyotas, apparently each region had their own thing.

The Audiovox type you just look under the dash behind the fuse box area and there were several large boxes labeled "shock sensor" and so forth which you can tell are out of place.

 

I just got it home. Pictures are on the way. Let's see if any of this looks like yours.

It started having another episode in the driveway tonight after I unhooked and rehooked the battery to keep it from having an episode during the night.

I had to unplug this RED 10A fuse and then turn the switch on and try to start it. Then pull the fuse again, then plug it back in, rinse and repeat. Finally, it reset the system.



This is supposed to be the little monitor light by the fuse box. Does this look familiar?



This tag was wrapped around the wires where the fuse and the other box are together.



These two boxes are tied together.

Okay, so the only thing I remember matching mine is that red button which I think you posted a picture of the back of; look under the dash like above where your left foot would rest when driving are there any 2-3" plastic boxes labeled "shock sensor"? Its a white label in small print and has a part number too.

I cant remember if you said, but the Audiovox type uses a boomerang looking remote.

Found it just where you said it would be. It has a red light.

The brown/orange wire's label says "For Remote Starter Option".

 

I think thread this may provide the answer. Its called the "Gulf States Alarm". This is a Texas truck.

The Portugal box is the starter interrupt.

Those wire connectors look maybe bad going into the monitor light .

 

The monitor light and valet switch has been broken out. Not much left there.

Yep, looks like you found it so now its just a matter of spending a few hours tracking down each tentacle of that thing and removing it all. With mine - once the system was removed my drivers power door lock wouldn't work - I had to re-connect two blue wires around the kick panel area to fix that; otherwise it was just a matter of removing all of the wire taps used to tap into the factory wiring.

 

My '01 has the Gulf States alarm bullcrap. Back in about 2007, IIRC, freaking THUNDER set off the shock sensor. IIRC, I found a way to dial down the sensitivity. (Apologize for the all the IIRCs; it's been a while.)

Just putting that out there, OP. Sounds like you're on track to remove the thing, which might the better call.

The weird part of this is every time I rent the Rug Doctor to clean car upholstery, all hell breaks loose. The time before this I ended up working 30+ hours non-stop and had to return it unused.

I just pulled my carpet a week ago and soaked both sides with simple green and pressure washed the whole thing in my driveway - but the Jute padding really sucked up the water it took 2 days in 90 degree pure sun to dry, but now looks great - a rug doctor sounds like a better option though for sure. Good luck with the projects.

Hm, my rs3200 alarm didn't have a black box to disrupt start function, was just the brain, factory t-harness and the glass sensor.

They way I got around the Alarm from Hell is to disconnect the two brown wire grounds on the inside of the kick panel on the drivers side. I undid them and taped them up, now the doors quit locking when I put it in gear ( drove me nutz) and so far the alarm is dead.

 

Here's a picture of the troubled "Gulf States Toyota Alarm System". A friend recommended I stop by to see a local car audio and audio shop that where the guys actually have owned 1st gen Tacos and removed it from their trucks. They pulled it while I waited. It took them about 30 minutes. We can dissect this while I have the old parts.

My recommendation is for owners with this system to get it removed before it leaves you stranded.

Also, this removed the annoying door lock system.
