Just a few things here and there
Hey guys we’re planning a week trip into Utah from Long Beach,Ca. June 8-16. We’re thinking of sticking to the lower part of Utah. We’re thinking of spending a night or two in Vegas. Would like to check out Zion but the gf thinks it might be a little too intense for our 11 year old daughter. We’re looking for any suggestions/points of Interest. We are perfectly fine doing primitive camping, usually what we normally do. I know it’s summer time, any cooler places to check out? Keep hearing go up in elevation. And we’re 2wd.... but we have a shovel :rimshot: So places that are kid friendly, 2wd friendly and primitive/disperse camping. .... in southern Utah oh and cooler. Not trying to camp in 100 degree weather. And actually wouldn’t mind driving into Colorado either :yay:

Zion is worth checking out, and there are a few shorter hikes that I'm sure your kid could do. It's very crowded though so try to go on a weekday if possible.

Definitely visit the North rim of the Grand Canyon. Specifically Point Sublime. No crowds and better views than the South Rim. You could spend 3 days out there alone with how many forest roads there are. Plenty of primitive camping spots in the Kaibab National Forest that borders the national park too

Other cool places would be Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Alstrom Point, and Natural Bridges. @Blackdawg has been to Southern Utah multiple times as well and may have some other great ideas.

^^^^^^^^ Agree. Zion is great but large crowds make it a zoo especially if you're not camping within the Park. There are a few first come / first served sites at the campgrounds so you may get a spot if you show up early. Lots of things to do using Kaibab NF as a base up near the North Rim. In addition to Point Sublime and exploring the FS roads, its about two hours to Page and Glen Canyon NRA and Lake Powell. The all day boat trip to Rainbow Arch was spendy but provides incredible views. You can camp right on the lake shore at Lone Rock and several other dispersed sites. Lee's Ferry is a fifty site campground with flush johns located on the Colorado River where all the rafters put in. Notom-Bullfrog road runs between Lake Powell and Capitol Reef National Park with access to the Burr Trail and other scenic drives. https://www.nps.gov/care/planyourvisit/roads.htm
