You should have told them to buy a Tundra. Shift map should match engine's powerband and not dictated by whiners who don't know better. Even 93 Performance shifts too early and lugs. :annoyed:

SSP guys, along with the tune. I’ve got a few more miles on it today, it really is nice being in the correct gear most of the time.

So have you or have you not recalibrated your shifting with Hypertech? Or are you waiting on the 4.88 tune?

Including MPGs? I am looking to do this soon. Running 5.29s and figure I might as well tune for it as well.

Yes, mpgs were the best with this tune as well. Never saw 21 mpg before this tune

I just had my Toyota Safety Sense Radar Sensor recall. They did reflash the ECU but did not interfere with the Tune. Still intact.

So make the performance tunes shift at 2000+ and leave the base tunes alone. Problem solved, and both groups are happy.

I use SSP like Turd Hawg and am happy enough, depending on my mood I either use SSP, or D with the tune. No biggy, just looking to someday unplug SSP and have a normal truck. ONE THING EVERYONE AGREES WITH is that this engine has to rev to do anything, so lugging at 1100 is a little too weak, shifting at 1100 is just plain wrong, shifting at 2000 sounds good to me. I am sure someone could tally all the complaints (I know I one point I complained about 1st gear shifting at 2200, shifting at 2000 would be fine, as odd as this sounds that 200 rpm actually makes a difference when you hear this engine sounding like an spinning unbalanced tin can about to explode). Not complaining, just want to get my opinion out there in hopes 2.0 can bring us a nice balance, hell, I am just old and ornery!

I have the solution! Dump the engine and tranny and put in any engine/tranny combo from before this ECU/electronics crap and just have it shift based on manifold vacuum, imagine that, shifting based on where your foot is on the accelerator?!

Here’s my feed back: Shifting at 2000+ is great if you’re still wanting to accelerate because the truck is in a healthy portion of the power band. It can now accelerate at lower rpm thanks to Mat, but pulling at 1100 doesn’t “feel” right. I’m cool with it shifting into low rpm if after I’ve reached my target speed, I let off the throttle and want to cruise at that speed. I don’t necessarily like cruising at 2000+ The other “issue” is that once in that higher gear and cruising at low rpm, when I want to accelerate, it either uses the torque Mat has provided and lugs up to speed (vs sock where more gas = nothing and even more gas = double down shift), or I give it more throttle and it produces too much acceleration (not nearly like stock). In other words, it would be fine by me to get into lower rpm, but only when I let off the gas. And once in that lower rpm, if I want to accelerate, I’d like it to get into the right gear (based on my foot’s input) to accelerate accordingly. I want to give HUGE credit to Mat for what he’s done for my truck. It is WAY better than stock. Each of his calibrations have gotten the truck closer to “normal”. At this point, it’s almost perfect. I’m confident that EROM (whatever the hell that means) is going to get it there. Thanks Mat. Looking forward to it.

Hypertech module only calibrates what the speedometer shows and what the odometer counts. I have that calibration module and its setup but the transmission gets its speed from the axle rotation sensor, not the speedometer so the shifting pattern is whacky. Doesn't matter if im on the base, performance, or gearlock tunes.

@OVTune with the government in all its taxpayer paid for wisdom bumping the damn ethanol up to 15%,will that have any effect on the tune? I know the usual lower mpg, which goes hand & hand with slightly less performance, and the havoc it cauaes on fuel systems.

Hypertech also has a shiftpoint change module. I called Nitro gear and that’s what they used to recalibrate the shift points after they added 4.88’s to their stock Taco
