Bringing my truck to the islands. Getting a new topper. Trying to decide if I want carpet liner inside? I’m coming from a dry climate. Any downsides to carpet in Hawaii?

In my experience it is near impossible to 100% seal the cap on a Tacoma due to the design of the front bed rail on the truck. As it is there will be a very small amount of water that leaks from the front corners of the cab when it rains on my truck. But since the bed has channels in it the small amount of water stays down in the channel and it quickly drains out the tailgate and dries. Any cargo I have in the bed sits up on top and stays dry so it's never been a problem for me.

I'd be concerned that the carpet would stay wet all the time and have a funky smell in an area where rainfall was a near daily event.

Carpet is somewhat waterproof ish...it’s thin layer of indoor outdoor type. It’s made for this and is supposed to help with condensation and insulation. And I’ll be near Hilo where it’s wetter so was just wondering about mold etc...anybody actually have this? It’s pretty common on the mainland

I have had my truck out here on Oahu for about a year and a half and haven't had any issues with the carpet on the camper getting mold or smelly. I have an ARE topper on mine fyi.

The beauty about no carpet (in Hawaii, with the beach and everything else) is to rinse it down, and be basically done..

When I get another truck (and camper is a guarantee).... it will not have carpet.

Thanks for those replies. I did order it after much debate but I’m still not sure. I think there are pros and cons. I like the insulation factor for camping in the back and the look is much nicer but I also think the rinse and go is good. Hopefully it’s not a big deal either way! Mahalo!!!!
