I understand the reasoning, just not something I agree with. If I signed up to a forum and that was the requirement to join. I wouldn’t join and I’d find somewhere else. Or, just use a fake name and email.

And it’s not cause I want to hide behind the name to be disrespectful. I just don’t put my real name out there. Sure, information can be retrieved through multiple means, just doesn’t mean I want to make it easy for them.

Nothing more than puzzle pieces. Give out enough pieces and someone if they want can have a profile of you in no time.

Sure, a plate by its self isn't much, but add in the bits of info from the threads an individual post on TW and over time you have the whole puzzle.

The thing is the guys who say they don't care about having thier plate on the internet are the same ones blathering on the web about shit they probaley shouldn't be and making it easy for people with nefarious intentions.

Because most have zero clue, most citizens are absolute lemmings that buy into the status quo and have no idea what rights are afforded to them in this country.

People looking to scam/steal identity go the path of least resistance. There are so many people out there that are just plain stupid and easy marks that just normal common sense measures keep most at bay. License plates... meh. Everyone that owns a street legal car has them and they are in plain sight day in and day out. I just don't see that as a major factor in ID theft. Now I'm sure someone can point to some case in NJ or some such where a plate number led to some issues. But that's the exception rather than the rule. More people are scammed simply putting their CC into the reader at the gas station, or handing their CC to the waiter in a restaurant who then disappears with it out of your sight for some minutes. I don't see many people avoiding such interactions.

I'd be more concerned about the lube tech at the dealer, who sees all your mods and has your address on the work order...

Or casually helps themselves to your wheels, etc. the one night you decide to park outside. My point is that there are far easier ways and more exposure elsewhere that have more information on you than a license plate number.

I mean, just the other day, an Army Sgt. in Iraq contacted me to help transfer $8M back to the States...figured I'd help a brother out
