No offense to anyone who has posted, but I only read the first few pages and the last 2. I'm not real interested in reading over 500 pages, so if my questions have been answered previously I apologize.

Just got a 19 and was not impressed when I went to back up a hill with about a 3000 or 4000 pound trailer. Either smoke your clutch keeping it way over reved or stall it or use 4 lo. Looking for more power at lower rpms for starting with a load, and mpg doesn't hurt either, but mainly power for towing. I have no emissions regulations where I live or wired government inspections, so I can modify as much as I want (other than warranty).

How much does this help with low end power? Of those early users, have you had any engine issues related to running at a higher performance level, I've burned up a few diesels with tuners while towing. Does this product effect the warranty on my new ride? Anyone use this combined with other performance options like headers or k&n intake, if so was there a noticeable difference?

Huge difference in low end power

Backing a big trailer is still going to somewhat suck because reverse is so tall, but it’s definitely improved. I typically use 4lo or there is a 2lo mod currently being worked on

I’ve got 50k+ miles while tuned and haven’t had any issues and over 5000 miles towing. I went back to the factory tune once just to compare while towing and I’ll never do it again. The change it power delivery is very noticeable and there’s an increase in fuel economy as well.

    Mostly stuff I built.

Also if you will do the clutch accumulator delete it will help for a quicker/crisper application of the clutch and prevent smoking the clutch as much. The accumulator delays the clutch application ever so slightly to cushion application. In short it is a nanny comfort feature that is totally useless for actually truck use. @Shellshock is on point on his information given as well.

Thanks for the replies, I know this is a old thread. I think I going to get the kit next month. Will also have to look into deleting the accumulator. I came from a 02 Dakota for my little town truck and I was shocked at the difference when towing. This has a much nicer ride but even with a blown head gasket my old Dakota will still out tow my new ride. I actually got pissed off and hooked on to the trailer with the Dakota because I couldn't get up the hill slow enough to weave around trees. Any improvement has to be better.

Thread may be old but active. Also the manual transmission guys around here are a tight knit group and tend to take care of our kindred spirits.

Ya, not many people can even drive a standard anymore. Guess that is why they started calling them manual transmissions.

That's funny, I still have my old 02 Dodge Dakota too. Still enjoy driving it around town as a beater truck, but like the Tacoma on longer drives

Your getting better mpg & low end torque with a factory exhaust, over a 3" custom? Seems strange, is it because you hooked your O2 sensor back up?

Oh, was it a "emissions compliant" kit? We have no emissions here so most people doing custom headers/exhaust do not bother with the emissions sensors.

Funny, I never thought a custom exhaust was supposed to sound "good". As it is I wear 105 db ear muffs when I drive my diesel, way to loud but breathes better so better towing.

I'm not sure what the point of putting a exhaust on if you keep the cat and other stuff like O2 sensor.

Wha...... I don’t even know where to start with this.
Do you understand how modern fuel injection works?

Not really, most of my experience up to this point has been with carburetors or throttle body injection or mechanical injection on diesels. In all of these you rip off everything and start from scratch, headers going back to muffler with no sensors or cat or anything.

No emissions here so no need for extra stuff that reduces flow.

The O2 sensors in front of the catalytic converter control your fueling.
The O2 after the cat monitors catalytic efficiency. It will turn in the check engine light if there is no converter or it’s not doing it’s job, burning unburnt fuel.

Like I said, no emissions. Not overly concerned about what is not being "burned" by cat. You get a much better flow without a cat.

If I understood modern injection I wouldn't be spending $ next month on Ovtune. Although if I don't get the power I'm looking for I'll probably start ripping out emissions stuff as soon as warranty ends. A little electrical tape on the dash covers up that pesky light.

    @Kantishna

You don't need to go crazy. Do what I and St. Germain? did. Install the URD cat delete y pipe and after market exhaust of your choice, you will notice a loss of low end torque/power but top end will improve significantly. I installed a 2 1/2" x 18" spiral louvered glasspack in front of my muffler to restore a little back pressure to deal with the low end torque/power loss and drone. I am quite happy with my system now with the added performance and no pesky check engine light ;)
