Morning, re-painted my front bumper yesterday then got almost white girl wasted and was in bed by 11. Today we go to check out some GX470’s, got 3 on the radar. Looked at one yesterday and it’s a solid rig.

Calling any and all electricians, those with wiring experience, and anyone smarter than me (which should be everyone).

Preface: when it comes to wiring and electronics, I am pathetically slow doing anything with a negative level of confidence of what I'm doing. Half the time, I pay someone far too much money to take a butt connector and connect two wires together. I know not to stick a fork into a socket, stay away from power lines, and not to whiz on the electric fence (@Pandaman59). So this will be a basic bitch question, but I'd really appreciate it if y'all took me seriously and offered help.

Equipment: two plug connectors - in case you're wondering, they're connectors for the horns. The original corroded apart somehow, shorted, drained a battery prematurely, killed the horns, and has become yet another fucking stupid issue that I should not have to deal with, but here we are.

Problem: How can I splice these two wires like below and maintain a solid connection so I won't ever have to deal with corrosion destroying the wire and associated problems? No, I cannot remove the connector from the plug. OEM, the wire from one connector is crimped in the connector of the first, but since I had to have someone make these for me, I naturally forgot to tell them to wire it as it was OEM. Again, here we are.

(tagging @loginfailed because this dude is something else)

    THANK YOU.

Cut wire wire where you want a splice, and use a butt connector. Should take you 30 seconds.

It looks like he’s just trying to crimp two relatively small gauge wires (I’m guessing 18-20 GA) together.

Soldering is generally not used on vehicles because the joints can crack from the vibrations of a normal vehicle. Auto manufacturers almost exclusively use crimp connectors, and occasional soldering of common grounds or splice points.
