Is there not access to the head of the bolt? Sorry, I'm not familiar with how those snorkels mount up.

For someone who's made it this far with the stock skid I think 1/8" would fine. If you want a skid that can hold the weight of the truck, probably not.

 

Spent a good portion of the day spraying a total of six cans of Rustoleum flat black under the truck. To quote the Rolling Stones, "paint it black"! Will give it a few days to cure, and then spray with either WD40 or Fluid Film. I am actually gravitating back to WD40 for keeping the rust at bay. Other than needing to get something inside the frame rails.

Also cleaned the engine compartment, Foamy oven cleaner, and pressure washer, then sprayed it with WD40. Good to go for another year.

Right but my point is the stock skid is probably stronger than just 1/8" steel. For the skid under the diff it's fine. Enough stuff behind the skid to help it. Up front and the transmission and belly skid. No.

I have RAT skids and i tend to fuck up the bolts. Doesnt bother and have never had to use a grinder yet

Thought that was my old one for a second. Hard to find, I could never find one,they sell quick. I had to buy a wrecked taco to get mine.

 

According to BB, that 1/16" you refer to is 41 lbs spread out over the IFS and belly pan skids.

3/16th" = 124 lbs. and the 1/8" = 83 lbs.

 

He was camping with one of my good friends, I knew they would be up there. Didn't know Travis at the time just a right time right place from the lookout.

 

Found this on my post adventure inspection today.

 

Need some help. Put the lift on, aligned it, rode great. Now that I’ve taken the 200 lbs. of old wheels and tires out of the bed this thing has a helluva wobble at low speeds and also at 50-63 mph. Seems to be less noticeable at other speeds. I swear it feels like a flat tire, but it’s not.

Too much preload? Carrier bearing drop needed? Times like these I wish some of you guys lived closer to test drive it. Something ain’t right.

 

Did you install any axle shims with the leafs? You may be wishing that you did. The fact that it happens at low speeds, and high speeds, but not in between is kinda reminiscent of my post lift vibrations.

 

I didn’t, and TBF I think you recommended I do that before I installed. I was thinking it might be something in the rear since once I took the weight out of the bed it rides like ass. What shims did you use?

 

What is a wobble? Is it a vibration? Do you fel it in the steering wheel or the seat?

 

Wheelers 3 degree aluminum shims.

To be more exact, my vibes were felt through the seat/floorboard. Happened in high gear when cruising at low rpm's especially. Sounded like a rumble strip. A new carrier bearing helped some, shims made it go away for good.

 

Ever had a rock in your tread and hear it hitting pavement? Slower at low speeds quicker at high? Replace that with a noticeable bump. It almost feels like hitting a small speed bump. I feel it in the seat. I still have the wheel boxes in the extended part of the cab and they’re rattling around like crazy.

 

Yep, it’s vibrating the whole damn cab. I think you’re describing exactly what I’ve got. I’ll hit up Wheelers. Thanks Daniel.
