Brakes

I have an 05 Tacoma TRD package...i recently learned that my brakes are on thier last leg or pads i guess. I tow a 25' camper and wanted to know which pads would be the best for my ride? Also does anyone know if that particular model has a transmission cooler on it?

 

Use the search feature.... upper blue bar. You'll surely find lots of posts about brake pads.

Trannies don't come with fans on them.

Some models have 'tranny coolers' - but that's not a fan.

 

thats actually what i mean...a cooler. How do i find out if it has one on my particular model?

 

If you have the factory tow package you will have the trans. cooler. For brake pads I tow a 6k boat about once a week in the summer. I decided that as much towing as I do and the fact that I got 68k out of the first set of pads that I would just replace them with Toyota pads. I have very little brake dust and wanted to keep it that way. Some of the performance pads were really expensive and the extra cost didn't really justify the small improvement in stopping power. Just my 2 cents worth.

X2 I agree with the use of OEM pads over aftermarket brands plus they will last alot longer and are vehicle specific made for the Tacomas with new backing plates with the kit.

 

awesome thanks guy's. One more thing,,,feeling dum here but, what does the VVTi mean on the engine? I am new in the camper world and what to be sure my rig is equipped with everything it needs. I have a V6 with the fac. tow pac. but not sure if it is the 4.0...is the VVTi the 4.0L?

 

the 05+ v6 only comes in a 4.0L

 

Pads is one of the only places I go back to OEM. Other's never seem to hold up as well. And almost always are nosier than stock.

I have the factory tow pack and no cooler....you have to have an automatic to have the cooler.

 

OP has an automatic

 

Open the hood and look straight down, the trans cooler will look like another radiator but smaller. I wouldn't tow anything that big without a trans cooler, oil cooler and trailer brakes.
