Yes there is another good one out near philomont off Snickersville tpke and Jeb Stuart rd. It's usually deeper than the one near me and much sandier bottom.

Do you have an orange truck with a license plate that says gravel roads? Saw that truck on Braddock today and figured it was you.

Good morning. Beautiful day so far.
    Hope everyone can enjoy.

Anyone know who has a maroon 2nd gen access cab, 4x4, lift, black wheels, and supercharged? Saw it friday night at Harris Teeter in South Riding.

I've been thru that one. My great grandfather's blacksmith shop was right on the corner of Snickersville turnpike and Jeb Stuart Rd. diagonally across from the old country store back in 1905

I think that is the normal price at Proven Arms & Outfitters. I am looking at getting one as I don’t really shoot my G43 that well.

Is there anything remaining of the shop? I will have to look at an old map of Loudoun county to see if is identified. I wish Janney’s store in Lincoln was still open. I need to get Yardley Taylor’s map. I looked in John Janney’s book on farm life to see if it was mentioned, but no. I will head out there this week to explore.

    More on blacksmith shop...
“After the Snickersville Turnpike Company straightened The Great Road (or Colchester Road) in 1818, and where it then crossed with other main roads, the village of Philomont sprang up, grew, and got its first post office in 1831. Three years later the town had six dwellings, one school, seven mercantiles, two saddlers, and probably a blacksmith and a wheelwright shop.”

    And just one more bit...

Philomont is a quiet, shady little village at the crossroads of Snickersville Turnpike and Jeb Stuart Road in Loudoun County, Virginia. To the north of Jeb Stuart Road was 434 acres granted to Quaker Joseph Dixon; to the south was the 538-acre 1739 grant to Englishman Lovell Jackson. Absentee Englishmen held the Jackson grant until 1836, when ownership transferred to ‘locals,’ who were predominantly Methodists. One prominent family on the south side of the road was the Roszels, who made it possible to build the first church in the area, the Mountain Chapel. As early as 1769, an Anglican chapel sat near the Hibbs Bridge on Mountain Road (Snickersville Turnpike). The Southern Methodists assumed control of the chapel in 1890, and because the Milhollen family deeded a half-acre in Philomont to them, they moved their little church, stone by stone, to the new site. It still stands today as a United Methodist Church and carries the name Roszel’s Chapel in honor of the original family who made it possible.

I bought a book on the history of Loudoun County from the country store. It has a paragraph about his shop and names him. The elderly lady that is/was the postal clerk in the store lives on the property diagonally across from the store. She told me several years ago that they tore what was left of the blacksmith shop down in the mid-60s to build their driveway. She said she thought she still had some old photos of it, but I've been by there twice and she hadn't had time to look for them. I'm not sure if she's still living or not:confused:

I had a mod morning after working 12 hours last night. I wanted to get something accomplished befor it gets hot.
I built a rack out of superstrut for my arb awning / /room. It seems like it's going to work out fairly well its solid. I replaced my shackles with the inverted factory to get my rear end down a little more. I didnt like the way the truck rode when it was up so high.
