This is interesting, I wasn't really thinking about electric cars when I made my statements. The fuel saving on electrics are a much bigger difference so I guess if you go electric, that would end up saving you money on fuel... Making it worth it. Especially if you have solar on your house, and use that to charge it.

Solar on the house doesn't help charge the EV unless you are home.

Now if you have Solar + Battery Storage system then you can store the electricity generated during the day and use it to power the house and/or charge the EV at night.

It also helps if the place you work has EV charging stations. The parking structure @ my office in DTLA has 2 hour free charging (which can be gamed to get more). But with the # of EVs increasing actually getting a charging spot is getting increasingly difficult for my coworker that drives an EV.

This thread has been pretty dead before that.

I mean I kinda turned it into the home remodel / BS thread :D

I'm late to the party but most people don't want to touch the front diffs on a Toyota because of the clamshell design. I guess it's a PITA and takes a special set of tools and hands. ECGS is by far the best route to go and changing a 3rd or even the clamshell is easy.

Well... let's discuss. I removed the factory cross member because it's shitty sheet metal and I have plans for something more structural in coming time. Problem now is I want to temporarily support the frame but can't decide how vital it is to have an "X" brace for the mean time. I am sending a bar between the hangers to support the lower portion but I have a trip next weekend and am trying to decide how vital an "X" brace would be.

Finished up the DMZ Fab frame boxing kit installation. :headbang:
    :welder:

I opted to remove the factory cross member and I'll be replacing it with something a little more structural. Before

    After

Mid section tacked in with gusset on the crossmember.

    Finished up.

Yeah that was my advice to everyone as well, if you have something else to drive for awhile, the ECGS 3rd swaps would be the most cost effective and the warranty is nice too.

Doing White Mountain with a group on here that's mostly newbies it seems like, really don't want to have to contend with 30 Jeeps on the trail lol. Hopefully they stick to the usual Jeep Trails (Gold Mtn, Holcomb, Heartbreak, etc.). Knock on wood I've never seen a Jeep group on WM before

Anybody up for Stoddard Valley OHV/Newberry Wilderness this Saturday and Sunday.
Was planning a solo trip this weekend to Stoddard to break in my new Ridge Grappler. But with the rain I'd have to stick to the easier trails.

I'm a pretty good navigator and cook up a mean BBQ Tri Tip dinner. Anybody want to go with???

    Send a PM

Hey all , I’m new to off-roading. Any good recommendations for a beginner trail close to Huntington Beach area?

Sorry if this has already been asked, this thread goes deep.

Nothing is really local to us in HB. There are a few fire roads somewhat closeby, Main Divide, Maple Spring Road, Indian Truck trail, but they're all closed at the moment, last I checked, after last years fire.
