I've wanted to run this trail before, but now that I'm glassed, I dont think its such a good idea for this reason. Bummer...

The trail is totally doable with a wider truck, that particular spot was an optional harder line that he wanted to try. Theres one or two tighter spots but everyone got through them just fine

Aah good to know. New to the group, so hopefully I'll be joining you guys soon. I'm definitely building the truck for more of a speed orientation so we shall see.

It was nice weather at Cleghorn today. Not too much traffic either. Range rover had steering issues so I just had my Subaru 3rd row friend in his ascent followed by a mom Forrester. With friends like these who needs enemies

Couldn't take many pics of my own truck so I got a couple screen shots from my friends video....I had asked him to spot me but he records instead o_O

I was kinda disappointed two tacomas ahead of me bypassed the chute. One was a 3rd gen with full armor the other was a 2nd gen with rock sliders

Did you run all the harder off shoots, how was it? I ran that last hard one once... By accident..in the 2wd and made it with some great spotting and a big dent hahahaha a few years back. Would love to tackle the whole area again now that I have a 4x4

Possibility of Palomar Divide this weekend. Any interest? Very 2WD friendly. Not really challenging, mostly worth it for the views. Any interest?

I did not run all the harder shoots! After the chute we booked it (figuratively speaking) to the 138. I had my wife and 1 year old with me which was a ticking time bomb for lunch....if I had one other 4x4 with me I would have tried a lot more, but since my bud cancelled I brought my family, and you know how that goes.....

I'm down to try the other harder shoots with some members! Even @Norsemanvike with the palomar divide. Only issue is June is tight for me. Gonna be in the bay area for a Dodger game next weekend, then 1 day off for father's day, then big bear dual sport ride following that.

Until then I'll live vicariously through all your posts. Glad I found this thread vs. "What have you done to your Tacoma Today":bananadead::deadhorse:

Is it open? I heard back in March that Palomar was closed during the government shutdown and that it hadn't been opened still.

This website says its still closed but these US Forest Service sites are notorious for not being updated regularly

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/cleveland/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5340229

Might wanna call them first to check

OEM if you can swing it, or find a used one thats in good condition.

Or just get a parts store axle since they have lifetime warranties...not going to last as long but they aren't that hard to change out. But if it happens on a trail it can be rather inconvenient.

If you go the parts store route I'd go with a Napa one.

I have an FEQ aftermarket axle on one side that's held up great for the last 8 months but I've never seen them in stores around here. A shop put it in for me when I was getting my wheel bearing done.

@erice went with an aftermarket one and although it's nice for the warranty, he's had to replace them a few times which is a PITA if you're looking at it as a regular maintenance item.

Not sure what brand though. I want to say AutoZone so Duralast?

yeah those are crap so I've heard...they work fine if the truck is stock but don't handle lift angles well and the boot material isn't great. I have one as a spare that I keep on me when wheeling but haven't had to use it yet.

I hear the Napa ones are good or used to be, some say they aren't from the same source anymore though so they could be a crap shoot.
