OVTune 3.5L Tacoma Supercharger and Twin Turbo Systems

Well, it's a new month and hoping to hear an update.

 

Yup...lots of us waiting patiently almost a year now. Would prefer a high quality product with lots of R&D time rather than something rushed to market. Besides, gives us all some time to save our pennies

 

And a lot of kissing the wifes rear huh?

step1. build it
step2. carb approve it
step3. crash test it to make sure components that hang off the motor don’t change the occupant safety / crash designs.
step4. let toyota beat the living fuck out of trucks with kits.
step5. bean counters get involved

Imagine being so bold to go onto an enthusiast vehicle website, find a thread pertaining to a small shop building a custom FI system from the ground up for a NA engine while simultaneously developing a tune kit for multiple vehicles, then posting on their thread that they don't have enough pictures to satisfy you.


Chill out man, these things take time. OVTuned hasn't taken anyones money and run with it, they're busy. I'm not a corporate apologist in anyway, but give them a bit of a break. We're all waiting just as anxiously as you.

 

I think with Mats design things will be fine. However, many people will try to up the boost one way or another for more power. That's when things will happen. Just the nature of boosting.

 

I am fathomed on how a smaller shop can design and implement a turbo for this engine, but larger shops who specialize in turbos (or even superchargers for that matter) day in and day out cannot or will not so I'll give Mat kudos for taking on this challenge and being able to ignore the whiney babies who demand more lol

 

I think one of the reasons the bigger shops haven't yet is because they don't have the means to tune for it yet.

 

Good point, but they can outsource that to ones who can. My assumption is that there isn't enough demand for Greddy or Magnuson or Vortech type companies to make one

 

There is absolutely demand, but bigger shops rarely like to work with smaller shops on anything. Many shops contact us and when we tell them we aren't willing to just hand over all of our custom development into their hands (since collaboration is almost never an option) they just cease contact.

 

Well good on you and your shop for working to meet the demand and let the other shops lose out on this adventure. Keep up the good work.

I do not own a Tacoma and don't see myself doing so for quite some time as I am in school. I came across this thread in my waisting of time. I read your comment and immediately thought, "I wonder if this company has purchased a wrecked XF-50 LS500 for inspiration or R&D?" The 3.5TT in the LS500 is essentially what you guys are trying to build without breaking the bank, has OVTune considered purchasing a wrecked XF-50 for R&D purposes? After all, the 3.5TT could be an engine that will be making a debut in Toyota/Lexus models to come.

 

I think OV has an ls500 so I bet he is already thinking along these lines. I may have even seen a mention of the Tacoma 3.5 vs the ls500

 

Could you imagine a ls500 with a FJ cruiser transmission
And a full floater rear axel with 300m 35 spline axels
