Last question - how is the cell signal up there? I have Verizon

Thinking of camping here in the next few weekends and having some people meet us during the day for offroading, but not sure if I will have a signal to communicate.

Made somewhat of an impromptu trip out yesterday for coworkers birthday.

Went down chestnut, turned onto Auger, and took that all they way to the bridge where it was closed off. Coming back from the bridge, we turned right on the trail that took us down to Jocassee. Definitely got spicier on that trail, but all still plenty doable. We used a spotter for one 15 foot section (pretty narrow space for placing tires to avoid deep ruts on a downhill ledge). You could definitely do it alone but I figured better safe than sorry!

Here are the gaia tracks I took if anyone is looking to take the same route as well as wondering how to get down to the lake:

I know that rutted spot! I stacked some rocks in the right side last time and just went for it. I should've used that strategy this weekend at Hurricane Creek where I smashed the rear bumper trying to avoid the ruts.

It looks like you're saving those side trails on the road to the lake for another day as well. I'm gonna hit them next time.

Yep it was a fun spot! Got the front left wheel to hang in the air on the way back up it haha.

We were - I had my black lab with me so I really just wanted to get him out and swimming because he loves the water.

Some rain will make it real interesting getting down to the lake!

Yep, even more fun coming back up! I feel like the Rubicon could make it just fine though.

I don't doubt it could be fun but after only 6 months of ownership and only a few off road trips with it, it would be some time before I figure out it's full potential.

That sloppy mud that we ended up on our property in ohio over memorial day weekend was like cake batter. 4 lo/lockers engaged but still had to get the rpm's up to clean the k02's. It was a pretty sketch situation there for a bit.

Neighbor finally got my dad's 1500 out of there this weekend with his Ford 9n.

I just think it's really cool that they have this road open. I've never seen it open before. Now I have to find some time to get up there!

It's a good route for sure! I haven't done past the bridge (it has been closed since I got my Tacoma), but this trail was much more difficult than Chestnut & Auger to the bridge. Tons of fun the whole way

In some sections it can be, nothing unreasonable though. It is just consistently downhill, with one or two sections that are difficult, the rest just require you to pay attention to your lines.

The last little bit down to the lake is pretty steep and not well maintained.

    Edit: What @SummitBound said
