    Ah, good old perforation warranty.
Note that perforation means that it rusts an actual hole all the way through the panel.

I had to exercise the rust perforation warranty once... on a chevrolet. The ONLY vehicle I've ever even HEARD of that actually rusted all the way through while still under warranty.

Glad I noticed this TSB. I only have this issue on my driver door sill, and after two winters of northern salt and brine. I wash my truck every day or two in the winter (unlimited pass) but figured it was my bad for not cleaning the sill often. Seems that blame may be 50/50. I'll have to get this taken care of after my move (to the land of no more salt luckily). Thanks for the TSB info.

well Toyota decided mine wasn't covered.... im out by milage of bumper to bumper warranty. 48000 on 2016
service manager says they consider outside factors caused the rusting. not the thin paint....

mine was only on drivers door sill about 1 inch section on each side of the kick strip.
good thin my cousin works as body shop manager and says they can perform the bulletin for a song and beer money as long as I get a new kick strip to put on.

got a whole set of kick strips for 33bucks on Amazon. Toyota PT747-35161 Door Sill Protector

I have a few little spots, but I am over 36k mi. I assume this TSB will not be a warranty issue any longer? If not, how much has this run you folks?

    Thanks,

ok to most this doesn’t probably seem like much but but for me it’s a big deal that my 2017 OR which I bought brand new in 12.2016. Look though all the pictures I took to see exactly what is this current problem: rust on a 2.5 year old new tacoma with just over 32,000 miles...#wth ?!? Toyota has an open T-SB-0021-19 for 3rd generation doorsill rust. Like an iceberg that only shows 1/10th of it’s true size above waterline and like the Tacoma 9/10th’s remain hidden from eyesight. My local Toyota dealer service manager and business manager stepped up to the plate for me and is having their shop body repair right now as I type because if I even went over 36,000 miles Toyota wouldn’t warranty the poorly built product they manufactured rant over for now...?tbc?

Yeah it’s disappointing that his is a thing. Glad Toyota is taking care of it.....I agree, it should be a recall not a TSB (so regardless of warranty)

I’ve yet to get it done on my ‘17 but will this fall....

recall is a safety issue. which this is not.
special extended warranty coverage let say 8 years 80k yes this should be it. mainly because the bad rep Toyota gets with their frame rust.

Mine isn't rusting yet. If it does, I'll fix it myself.

It might not look as good, but it will never rust there again (w/in 50 years, unless it gets damaged).

Seems like silver & quicksand are the worst offenders with this problem. I got mine fixed last year under warranty & still looks good thankfully.

So according to the bulletin it says they’re painting the whole thing? I just bought my truck used.. a 16 so I’m assuming I’m kind of dicked warranty wise towards this issue anyway. But I gave it a good look around today and from what I could tell mine only has rust on one little spot weld under the weather stripping.. what do you guys think of just doing the second portion of the bulletin and saying the heck with painting the whole thing?
