I don’t know enough about ham radio to give you a scientific answer but i know the less things around/near the antenna the better it works.

It could work fine for short distances like when your on the trail communicating using simplex.

 

Why not install it at the back of the bed?

Having the antenna vertical is best for most scenarios and for a good reason. Communication between antennas is strongest when they are parallel to each other. Having antennas at angles or perpendicular caused a significant reduction in signal strength. Also, the radiation pattern of the signal that is angled is going to "scew" the signal

I have the Pro CAI and added the Pro exhaust.....great low rumble, non-droning sound.
Worth it!

 

I too am eventually planning a snorkel and have concerns of the ditch light being in the way. The solution I think I’m going to use (would love a picture if anyone else has) is to use the extension towards the inside, mount the antenna where the ditch light goes and mount the ditch light on the extension inboard.

Any one do this yet?

 

Late on the post, but over the Memorial Day weekend, I debadged the truck and took the TRD stickers off. Next, the chrome grill bezel and chrome bumper need to go.

 

My younger brother just uses the standard ditch light brackets. We did a weekend of day and night wheeling, they worked fine with the ARB Safari Snorkel

 

Technically not today (was yesterday), but returned some excess fence material. Diamondback cover coming in clutch once again - just shy of 300lbs loaded on top.



Sidebar - yes the stock bumper is damaged from being rear-ended at a traffic light and needs removal. Have a new one on the way from ATH Fab - "free" steel bumper ftmfw.
