You have to think about why dealers push extended warranties, gap insurance, financing options, undercoating, etc. Just remember their loyalty is to the shareholders and their interests.

If you choose to get platinum EW: use this as a guide from Wolverine Toyota in Michigan. This is for 2wd. They'll send you 4wd chart too. I had 0 issues dealing with them. Received my warranty paperwork in mail within a week. Or use this in negotiating with your local dealer.

You're betting against the odds if you do. They clearly take in more than they pay out and if you mod like many of us do, you're voiding large sections of what's there and further reducing the likelihood you get your money back.

Magnuson only applies to OEM warranty (and it's a losing battle) and if you feel like challenging an aftermarket warranty (even from the OEM), you have to go into forced arbitration which will likely not end in your favor.

I'll fully admit I reasoned myself into it when I bought my truck (albeit, an excellent price) but I've since cancelled it. It makes little sense on a company with such great reputation and makes even less sense for someone like me that can do all of my own repairs.

The people that state NO is it because you think your Tacoma will not occur any expensive repairs out of warranty? For all you that have blind spot assist you do realize one sensor is MSRP of $1K & they have a high failure rate. Both of mine needed replacement at 50K. You know they have issues when there is a TSB about them failing.

I've had both of mine replaced too. I've had the extended Toyota warranty on my last 2 vehicles. Not once has Toyota declined to fix anything under the warranty. Some of y'all must have shitty dealerships. I have the 6 year/125,000 mile extended warranty on the Tacoma. Paid $750 for it.

I bought the extended platinum warranty on my CPO, cause I'm a sucker, and paranoid. It was only like $1,100 or so, and is for 8 years or 130k. I don't go through vehicles often, so I'll hang on to the Taco until it implodes into a fiery ball of death.

I got the Toyota one. I actually told my sales rep that I know he's got targets to hit for himself, and if he could make it worth my while to purchase it I'd be in. It actually ends up covering all labor/fluids/filters for any scheduled maintenance so based of the discounts I got it ends up paying for itself anyways. Hopefully I don't have any issues if something goes wrong but my dealer has been fine to work with so far.

There is always a risk, but I'm betting on my prior experiences with owning multiple Tacoma's and even more Toyota's. 100-200k miles, no issues. I expect no different with this truck.

And I opted to forego the crappy BSM specifically for that reason. I don't care for the TSS either and if that thing goes south, I will just rip it out.

I didnt get it on the Tacoma for the reason of, the things I will do this truck will likely void it anyway. I did get it on our Rav4 and I am waiting to see how that's going to work out right now. :fingerscrossed:

My reason for not purchasing extended warranty is due to the fact that I drive an average of 6500 miles per year so my original factory warranty covers me for the first 36 mo. Additionally, I don’t keep my vehicles much longer than three years. As an example, I just traded my 2016 Tacoma with 21k miles for a 2019 Tacoma after 38 months.

Just purchased one as I’m almost at the cutoff (34k miles currently). I bought a 6 year/100k warranty for $1095. It’s a good peace of mind knowing for the next couple of years anything major goes on with the power train or something else I’ll be good. Read what’s covered. I got the platinum and read over everything thats covered with it. I know when the time comes (hopefully never) that I may have to have push hard for Toyota to do repair work but it’s still better than being left with a big bill if I ever have any issues. Down the road if you decide you don’t want it or want to sell it, you can request to cancel it and Toyota will give you a prorated refund based on how much you have left.

There is a 5yr/60k power train warranty included with the factory warranty.

Sorry OP to jack the tread, but what kind of paperwork did you receive? The finance manager I dealt with stated after submitting the paper for my warranty I didn’t need to do anything or would get anything else.
