I wonder if people who have upgraded their leaf springs, and/or lift kit have this issue persisting?

I just left the dealer. The service manager said he had a conference call with Corporate last week addresssing these issues. Allegedly there’s solutions in the works and my dealer has created a list of people with the same issues for when it’s released.

Not exactly earth shattering news, but at least he didn’t tell me it was normal...

Corporate as in Toyota corporate? If so, that is good news, maybe Toyota is gearing up for a TSB or recall.

I complained about the brake stutter to the dealer when I brought my SR in for it's first service. I told them it was the rear brakes. They replaced the front pads and resurfaced the rotors as a "courtesy". Of course, it didn't help. I dropped off the truck yesterday at another dealer for my second service, the anti collision recall and asked them to look at the brake stutter problem. They called me back a few hours later and told me the mechanic confirmed the problem and they are replacing the axels per the SB.

He said Toyota Corporate. I asked if it’ll be a TSB and he said he’s not sure but he made a comment about 12M trucks from 2017 to present had varying degrees of these same issues. He mentioned the previous attempts to fix it with new drums and new transmission programmming.

    Hopefully it’ll come soon.

I had a 2013 that had vibration when accelerating, from around 10 MPH to 30 MPH. It felt very similar to the braking/decelerating vibration, just when gaining speed instead of slowing down. It seemed like quite a few people had it, although there were some that didn't. I did a lot of reading back then and most people came to the conclusion that it was axle wrap from the soft rear springs throwing the driveline angles out of whack. Someone even attached a GoPro to their frame and pointed it at their pinion to show what was going on. I'm wondering if this is something similar, some sort of driveline issue versus a brake issue.

I saw my Tacoma in town today. It didn’t take the dealer long to flip it. Poor bastard. I hope he has better luck with it.

My 2019 TRD OR was doing this and it got progressively worse. Took it in for the 5k service and they stated the rear drums are out of round. They are fixing them this week. Hopefully the issue does not return.

I have had the shakes and shudders with braking too for well over a year. After exhausting 3 repair attempts, the dealer changed its mind and says its normal. Then Toyota corporate told me they wont do anything about it, and that it's a characteristic of the vehicle.

Its probably axle wrap, I can probably fix it myself when I lift the truck. But its shitty that Toyota is too lazy or stupid to acknowledge that there's a problem.

Considering lemon law just for shits, since its so easy and cheap in my state.

Brought mine in last Friday, they did the drums only, went from quick vibes to more of a slow shudder or loping feel.
Heard people talk about shafts needing work too.?.
When I dropped off my service advisor was down the hall, the advisor I was handing my keys to asked what I was dropping off for. I gave him a quick one sentence explanation and was surprised to hear him say.
Oh yeah, I've had a few of those, are we doing the shafts & the brakes today?
I said well I only saw that you ordered the drums.
He said ah well maybe we had the shafts in stock as I've seen people come back after only the drums were done.
They only did the drums but apparently they are seeing us in there & noticing..

Noticed this with my 19 TRD off-road as well. Not all the time. I’m bringing it in. Hopefully that won’t blame it on my lift!!

Mine does this. 2300 Miles. Shake/Vibration comes when braking from about 40 mph. I notice it more on the freeway. Regular city street diving I don't get it. Will be addressing it at first service.

Mine too- always under 40mph, but sometimes while stopped at a light with no movement. Its the same pulse I feel when I have my foot on the brake and start the engine. Almost like ABS pulse- always the same duration as far as time.

I had the same vibration issue with my 18 OR. Initially, the TSB pointed to the axle and flange clearance. So like for most people, they switched out the rear axle shafts. They ALSO resurfaced the rear drums.

A few months later the issue returned, but at that point, Toyota said the issue wasn't the clearance of the flange, instead they argued it was simply the over tightening of the drum brakes from the factory plant. They ended up completely replacing my rear brakes. Mechanic also pointed out that the previous dealership that changed by axle shafts should have changed out the brakes because they were warped, instead of resurfacing them. However, dealerships charge more work hours for drum resurfacing than drum replacements, so the dealership obviously chose to "milk" Toyota.

Anyway, with new brakes and those new axle shafts, my vibrating problem is gone. For now... haha

Those of you who think this is due to axle wrap, I would strongly suggest that either you're wrong, or that you are experiencing a different issue than what OP had stated initially. I can explain why if needed.

I have a 19 trd off road 4x2 with 2000 miles with same issue, took it to dealer and they said there's a bulletin that applies to mine, they were going to replace axles but an engineer from toyota test drove vehicle and he said that it doesn't make sense to replaced them because is not going to fix it. They told me to wait for a new tsb to have that problem fix once for all. The vibration shows when slowing down from 30 to 0 mph with or without braking, it will even show if driving on bumper to bumper traffic on highway at that speeds.
