TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Damn sc is gonna make this engine cage a tight fit. Nonetheless managed to sneak a few tie in tubes to the cab cage and over the wiper motor and now have a starting point.




Also took the truck down the street for the first time in a few months. Seat almost tipped over when the boost kicked in haha. Lucky the harness bar was there to stop me from falling into the back seat.

 

I need a cage too. Ugh..

 

It’s a fun but not fun project to say the least. Glad I can see the lights at the end of the stripped pit truck with holes all over the place.

 

If it's anything like my 3.4l its a pain to get all 8oz out (how much mine holds)...impossible to get all of it really. But if I move the tube around a bit and finagle it I can get it to work itself deeper in and pull more out. Takes a little while but I can usually get close to the full 8oz

 

You know I hear this a lot too. Then they go and follow it up with something along the lines of the bigger tubes are easier to hold or they’re more enjoyable to use.

 

Mine also had some pressure in it, but that's somewhat normal for sealed containers coming here from sea level.

I only got about 2-3oz out of mine, but put a full 3oz back in before it oozed from the drain hole.

Does that air compressor work pretty good?

 

Depends on tire size.
Stock, yep great.
33’s, depending on ambient air temp it might overheat on you once.
35’s, takes at least 30 min and will overheat at least once, probably twice.

It has a thermal shutoff switch to auto shut off and takes 5-10min to cool down before it will run again. When I chop out my inner fenders I’m going to leave this out and probably mount it in the fiancé’s 4Runner. Then I’ll save up for one of the 100% duty cycle ones from viar.

 

They work. Still slow as shit though. But i did air up two sets of 35s within 20-30mins id guess

Meanwhile the 80 isn't getting turbo'd as I run down this path...

 

So looking at the ECGS Dana 60 page, are we talking around $5k-ish for what you’ve spec’d out?

I’m not sure I’m that hardcore, most of the curbs at the mall aren’t that much of a challenge. I was thinking of picking up a front/rear set of 4.10s from a 4 banger taco and calling it good. Just to gain some gearing back to compensate for bigger tires.

 

yes but they might give me 400 for sending them a stock 8.4 third as a core. I still have to ask though. and the SOS kit without the parking brake so its cheaper

and the front diff too so add 1k

 

I haven't really looked through all the options. Part of me thought that maybe the Toyota dif should go all @VolcomTacoma, and then I'd get the Dana 60. It's not broken yet.
