It's only weird if you didn't. Lots of "big" dudes at my gym are scared to wear shorts cause they all skip leg day.

That quote with the pic is dumb too. Calf size is highly genetic. 80-90% of the muscle composition that makes up the soleus muscle is slow twitch muscle fiber that has half the growth rate of a predominantly fast twitch muscle(group). You can’t change the amount of muscle fibers, can only grow what you have.

There is also a bunch of data on differences between where it attaches to the Achilles heel (high insertion/low insertion) and how that determines speed, body leanness etc.

I’m that guy who was born without calves. It’s quite comical. I have loooong shins which adds to the effect.

Even when I was fat they were pencils. My friends told me I look like a “buffalo riding an ostrich”.

And no, I don’t skip leg day. :p

Since we're talking about calf size, it is genetic, but you can get them to grow. It just takes A LOT of volume and A LOT of time. It help to do both bent knee, and straight knee variations, to make sure you're getting the Soleus and the Gastroc. Gastroc work requires an almost locked out knee to target it.

I could never get my calves to grow, even though I was loading up 600lbs on the Leg Press machine and doing calf raises on that once a week.

I've been doing 8-10 sets of 10-15 reps, 3-4 times per week of Single Leg Straight Calf Raises with a 45 lb dumbbell on a step, for the last 8 months, and am only now seeing a significant difference in size.
