Chestnut Mountain Road Runs

Well see what the weather is like on friday.

 

When we went we sunk in the dirt/dry mud in one spot. Could imagine that spot would be pretty hairy in the Rain.

The rutted spot spot too, but it's always wet anyway. Underground spring or something. It was flowing like a tiny stream when we were there, no rain for days before we came too.

The one side trail I wasn't sure if I could get back up while dry. It was super steep.

 

Was it the side trail closest to the lake or further back up the mountain?

 

Closest to lake. The one right at the SC/nc boarder I made it to the power lines. You can see trails below the power lines when you look that way from horse pasture road. So I guess that steep trail is the only way to get there

 

I've only been on the main trail, down to the iron bridge and up left for quite a bit before we turned around.

 

I gotta get back there soon. Looking like scattered thunderstorms for the foreseeable future, but what's the worst that could happen? (I spend all day winching myself up the hill ha)

 

Give us a heads up when you go! Some of us may be able to join and help pull each other out haha

 

Haha!! well, you could join us Saturday then.
Atleast we would have someone with a winch. Both my maxtrax were burried under
my dad's truck. I won't be able to get them till 4th of July.

My winch is on my prerunner.....but I don't dare take it when it's wet down there.

 

The only place I got stuck in the prerunner was coming back from the bridge on that heavy grade with large gravel.
Auto switched gears and dug a hole.

@JimboAnz gave me a strap. But that was a pretty good incline. I think Paul has video of it somewhere. Doesn't look steep but paired with that loose shale, it caught me off guard.

Well, one things for sure......were probably not going to have to worry about a dusty, dry trail.

 

After this dry spell we've had I'll take it!

I might be able to make this. With Choccolocco the weekend after I dunno how much windshield time I want to put in between now and then, but really want to check out this new-to-me road.

Couple Maps images. I took the trail in NC. The other trail I didn't go all the way down splits and accesses all the trails in the second image. I had read an article when they opened the road saying a winch is required to access all of crossroads, guess that's what they were talking about.
