Boost referenced FPR makes way more sense to me at least vs how it came from the factory.

Wow, better than I. I'm lazy, and it seems like a daunting task. Wrenching at my place is like a Walmart parking lot. Awkward with limited class.

Hey man it's no less awkward than wrenching outside in the Vatozone parking lot. :D

While on the road in rural New Mexico, I helped a buddy replace a fuel pump in his Chevy at a Car Quest once. There was a family owned burrito place next door. It could have been worse.

So nd4spd doesn't get on me for derailing/digressing:drunk:, I'll keep this post relevant and say that the cam gears showed up yesterday. Thanks JustDSM. It might be a while til I get to them as we're moving to Oregon for a couple months, but I will get them in...maybe in an auto parts parking lot (unless any of you guys lurking live around Hood River and have a decent shop).

@JustDSM are there any tuning changes you would want to make should I get time to install this week. If all goes well, I may throw them in and see if I can get back on the rollers. My curiosity is getting the best of me lol.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t uncomfortable making blind changes and having you go out and put the truck under high load.

I’m actually glad you asked/brought this up! Now that everyone is getting their gears, injectors and other goodies ready to install, I’ve been getting a lot of requests for tune updates. (And that makes me happy!)

But one thing I want to stress is I don’t do canned tuning where one map fits all. (Aside from the baseline calibrations, which are slightly different per octane, drivers requests, etc). I prefer to take small steps, collect data on the changes that were made, and make corrections or enhancements based of what is actually happening, inside YOUR motor, not what someone else’s truck did while running a different blend of fuel in a totally different climate with different driver inputs.

So what my message here is trying to get at is this: To truly tune your truck, I need the tuning process to be a two way street. I need your help in getting me data that’s going to help me make informed and safe changes. I cannot just blindly change parameters and send you guys on your way. Datalogs prior to the modification, and datalogs after the modification are necessary to ensure its done right. Sometimes it may take 3 or even 4 revisions to get correct. Again, there is no one size fits all value or map that is perfect for everyone.

This isn’t a stab at anyone, but just something that needed being put out there.

If you need a hand setting up your VCM Scanner to log the appropriate channels or not sure what to do, please reach out to me. I’ll be happy to set you up and get you squared away!

Once you’re set up, and you’re ready to collect logs for tune revisions, if you’re unsure of what driving sequences or length of log is required, again, give me a shout! Things like MAF rescaling and optimization of the timing map at high rpm/load require two completely different types of driving/data collection. Collecting data while you cruise to work can be helpful, it’s not always going to capture what is needed.

Thanks for all your support guys! You’ve all have made this stuff possible so let’s please keep it rolling, on all 4 of course!

But directly to your situation with the gears...

Get me a cruise log, varied driving/throttle input (part throttle), about 3-4 min worth.

Then get me a separate log, wot starting from a low rpm and let it go through a gear or two. Try to include the shift.

That’ll be our baseline. You can install the gears and we’ll repeat and make adjustments based on what we see.

You got it man! Glad I could bring up a valid point for once!

I’m not sure I’m going to get them in this week but I’m going to run some logs today and see if after a few tanks my trim issue is settled. I’ll let you know, thanks man.

I can attest this is absolutely true!
There are so many variables that if you change one (say vvti values) then go back and log your knock feedback.
Right now a lot of my ignition timing values are - from stock settings to keep knock down while tuning vvti.

Even the 3° cam gear difference I guarantee will have an effect on where other ideal parameters are.

It's like (until a month ago) we would throw performance parts at the truck hoping for big gains without being able to tune for them.
Now that we can tune, we can get the most out of the mod but only with careful methodical adjustments in a certain sequence to optimize every parameter.

This is just one Avenue where @JustDSM excels! While I am still fiddling with how one change effects another for my own learning, he has all that figured out (generally speaking because each engine is different and his background is tuner cars) so he knows where to target changes, how much to start with to be safe, and the end result he is looking to obtain.
It's like I am learning a new language he is already fluent in. Much appreciation for his willingness to teach! This is a whole new realm here.
