IT's a Tacoma...No extended protection needed. These are extremely reliable trucks....

No I never buy Extended Service Contracts, Especially not on any Toyota.

I would rather put the money aside and use it for actual repairs if and when necessary. I have never needed an expensive repair on any of my pre-2016 Tacomas or the two Rangers I had back in the day. I wouldn't buy one on my 2016 because it's like pulling teeth to get the dealers to honor them anyway. Most of the 2016 issues the dealer balks on. "Yeah They all do that" Something I never thought I would hear from a Toyota dealership...Times are changing for Toyota. They are getting cocky with all the sales. Why change a thing?

If one buys from SET and the Moran Family they don't get a real Toyota ESC it's Fidelity and it's OWNED by the Moran family...talk about conflict of interest...

With all the money I saved by not buying ANY extended Service Contracts on anything over the past 30 years, I can almost buy a new truck with the savings, Not worried about a $2000 repair bill. I am waaaay ahead of that game.

That's true, but only because Corporate isn't approving and reimbursing the repairs as they should. And if you think the 2016's are as reliable as the later 2nd gen's, you got anther thing coming, sorry.

I actually believe Fidelity handles the authorized factory extended warranties for several brands, fyi.

Fidelity is owned by the same family who owns the Toyota distribution rights in the SouthEast. If I was going to buy an extended Service Contact I would demand a genuine Toyota ESC, which means buying from a dealer out of the SET region

I agree the 2016 Tacomas are not without their issues. but it seems for most of those issues the dealerships are making excuses. So 3rd GeN owners have to blow another $700 on a tune just to make the truck what IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. If a dealer smells a tune...... warranty over. ESC Over. May as well get the money back Toyota is not covering shit. That is the main reason I sold mine. Toyota would not back the trucks common issues. This is NOT the Toyota who replaced bad head gaskets for free on my 95 Taco with 80K miles. And sent out recalls to replace both head gaskets on trucks up to 120K miles. That is why I kept buying Tacomas. Toyota BACKED up their trucks with exceptional non safety recalls

On my 2016 I had to spend my time and efforts to find a cause and solution for my whining noise between 35-45MPH. I found the lower control arm was whistling until I taped over the lower holes. Took Toyota MONTHS to release a TSB with plugs for those holes.

I completely agree. They've become arrogant and greedy, and their cars have become a shadow of their 2000's heyday. So basically Toyota is slowly turning into GM.

Oh, and the tune doesn't completely solve the engine issues for everyone anyway, because it's a bad engine design for a truck. And why the f*ck should we need to add $700 just to make our cars drive normally? The crappiest chrysler made still goes when u hit the pedal.

Man I feel your pain. I was extremely conflicted about selling the Tacoma and rolling the dice on the Ranger. But I just wasn't happy with the Tacoma and especially Toyota not stepping up to issues.

When Ford announced the Ranger and the available options, I stuck my neck out, sold the Tacoma and bought the Ford, So far So very good. I didn't know what I was missing. I think the Ranger will do very well once all dealers have enough inventory to avoid special ordering. But the jury is out re the Ranger,

Early buyers on the Ranger Forum are happy, So far very few issues, Polling suggests most of those who bought the Ranger were and are Ford owners. Some sold the F150 for the smaller footprint, A few Colorado owners and five if us former Tacoma owners. MOst coming from Ford trucks. I didn't realize the Ford owners are just as militant regarding the Brand as Tacoma owners LOL

I hear you. The truck looks gorgeous and gets so many compliments with the mods I've added, but that's just not enough when its sitting there choking when I give it gas.

I went back to a wagon, and I'll buy a 2009 or 2010 F150 if I decide I really need a truck. Tacoma is a little small inside anyway.

I'll give Tacoma that much. Tacoma is a beautiful truck. Some of that beauty interferes with function such as the shallow bed, Looks great but the deeper bed is more functional. I am a function over form kinda guy. Aesthetics don't mean a whole lot to me. I demand and will pay for function all day long.

When I bought my 2018 new I purchased the extended warranty, 125,000 miles/ 6 years for 1200 I think. All I've had to use my warranty for so far has been small and mostly cosmetic things (thankfully). But what I have had them warranty the dealership was really helpful and gave no push back. If you have the extra cash now and you can get a good deal on it, a little extra insurance never hurt anyone. Plus let's be honest becoming a member of this forum you will find so many amazing mods you never knew you needed before and watch your money fly away. :spending:

My wife and I have a rainy day fund for emergencies related to the house and vehicles. Would never buy an extended warranty.

Short story is that I ordered my truck, after waiting for over 4 month for it. They "accidentally" sold it the day it arrived. So they ended up having to buy the truck I originally ordered from a different dealership and have it shipped in. Ended up getting predator steps, TRD skid plate, and a couple of other things I didn't ask for included because that was the configuration of the truck from the factory, at the quoted price of the one I ordered. I've been doing business with the same dealership for about 15 years. When the snafu happened with the truck being sold, the dealership manager took over and I just assume he threw me a bone to keep me satisfied. They originally quoted me right around $1200 for it but I negotiated it down to $750. I wasn't going to even entertain getting it but at that price I couldn't pass it up. I keep vehicles for a long time, so for me it's worth it. 2 years ago, Memphis area dealership.

Ah, the infamous “we sold your truck not knowing you had ordered it” ploy.

I’m sure they knew. Their internal tracking system lets the dealer know what vehicles are in stock and where, which ones are in transit, which ones are reserved and which ones are available.

As long as you are happy with the outcome, that’s all that matters.

yep, that was my issue with the whole thing. The day It showed up my sales guy was off. The next morning he called me to let me know it was there and I could come pick it up. Mind you he never actually went outside to see said truck. So, I take the hour long ride to get it and it wasn't there... Some other salesman sold it the day it came off the truck. Needless to say, I wasn't happy when the truck wasn't there.

It happened and other than that, my dealership has been very good to us. They had the truck I ordered within a week after the snafu. All it took was a idle threat of asking for my deposit back and telling them I was going to get a F-150..
