That's exactly my situation! Had a 5.7 tundra, could roast my 33s on demand (not that this is advisable), and had tons of room. Went back to a Tacoma (RIP Tundra) and I love the 6 speed with the 4.0. It's not nearly as fast but it's way more fun. Kinda wish I had bought this truck to start with.

You are correct. Tacoma is all about making sure you complete your mission and get home. It's not a plush highway cruiser. But I find it to be comfortable enough, even on long road trips.

They sit too low, and the biggest issue is they aren't bucketed enough. That combination makes it so my butt slides forward and I have to constantly scoot myself back into the seat.

Funny, I feel like they sit too high. But not bad. Holds me fine offroad.

Yea, I did look at new. The combo of selling price and my trade made this one a better value for me than what I was able to negotiate on a new one.

I go the other way. I went from a Tacoma to a full size and there’s no way I could ever go back to a mid size. The room, the power and I get better MPG with my F150 than my Tacoma I traded. Whenever I ride in my dads 3rd gen, I feel so cramped. But, at the end of the day, get whatever suits your need the best. Good luck!

Nothing major. -3rd Gen OR suspension swap. -Trailer light plug relocation.
I mean on the 2nd gen taco's they use a plastic bed. I always thought it was just a liner till I bought mine and saw that there was no metal underneath. But oh well, I'm not using it for loading anything super heavy duty (not yet anyways). Plus, a buddy of mine who works in construction has one a couple years newer w/ the plastic bed and hasn't had any issues, so I guess it works out fine as long as your not trying to dump gravel from a three story building into it.

Hahahahaha!!! Hillarious!!! I gained 5mpg average when I went to my GMC with the 5.3L V8 and 6spd. Tacomas are notoriously terrible for fuel economy- at least my Gen 1 and 2. Can't speak for the Gen 3.

What you lose in fuel economy for the Tacoma you will more than make up for in fewer repairs/reliability issues down the road. ;)

I frequently get 20+mpg around town, even hitting most lights red. One would be hard pressed to get close to that in a fullsize.

It's certainly not hard to get bad mpg in Tacomas, but it's not hard to get good MPG either.

That's possible, my Tacomas were incredibly reliable and inexpensive to own. The GMC has a tall order to live up to, but so far it's been fantastic. And it doesn't shake like an epileptic child on Ritalin and Redbull like BOTH my Tacos did at highway speeds.

I'm not talking about average. I'm saying around town (no highway).

What specs does this vehicle you are looking at have?

    Sr5 4x4 DC for 29k? Not a bad deal.

If it's 4x2 then it's not that great. I paid 29.5k plus taxes on a new sr5 4x2 with premium navigation, rear sonar etc. If you are financing then new cars get much lower rates too.

If you keep the stock tires and drive like a regular person, you can get great mpgs. I used to get 23-25 highway and 18-21 city before I installed bigger tires/OVtune.

A good option would be an extended cab f150 with a 2.7 Turbo v6. Those have amazing power and also get great gas mileage.

I actually find the rubbery ride quality of the Tacoma quite satisfying personally. I'm also he type of guy who finds comfort in airplane turbulence, lol.

I can't even imagine what that pictured Tundra gets around town. Maybe single digits? lol
