Hydrolock can only happen if enough water entered the cylinder right?
So he over rev'd the engine and blew a head gasket on the long up hill, then he finally stopped and turned off the engine and the coolant pressure pushed passed the head gasket into the cylinder and when he tried to fire the engine it exploded. He could have had Hydrolock, probably not from the fording water he said he went through.

It sounds like these engine has the oil pickup in the front of the engine and high revs will deplete the oil supply quickly.

    Any thoughts?

Everyone should have replied to him that he should have bought a Jeep. Then all he'd have to worry about is the steering going bad on the freeway. My 98 Wrangler was rated for 30" of water in stock form. A great year for Toyota pickups is in my avatar.

It's been rough ride the last year or so. My wife wife passed away last March from cancer. That was the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. Not easy watching your wife die before your eyes... only 54 years old.
On a good note, I've been very busy building lots of Cabanas. I have a new lady friend now. It seams soon but it just happened on it's own. Also, just to ease your mind, I can still burn out taking off with a trailer load.:burnrubber:

    update:

got a missed call this morning and voice mail that they found data about wading depth for our trucks (conveniently not via email :spy:), will speak with them when I get time (being in ’Berta, 2 hours behind from TO :annoyed:) and let everyone know the results.

    Latest Update:

Called and talked to a nice guy from Toyota Canada, but as expected no clear answer.

Officially there is no numbers provided anywhere in the books of Toyota as it was never tested, they also do not have plans on finding this out or disclosing like any other brand does for liability purpose.

Best he could answer is the maximum wading depth would be 236mm or 9.4inch of stock ground clearance or just where the hubs are (which we all know already). Depending on speed of course, but nobody in the right mind will be sending at full speed truck into water crossing anyways.

On one side I understand why Toyota does not disclose this for liability purpose, but on the other side it hurts as a brand perception of “bulletproof trucks”.
