Grabbed the driveshaft and gave it a little "how do you do" And the center bearing clunked away. Should I also replace front and rear Ujoints as preventative maintenance? Anybody have detailed symptom descriptions? I have a helluva hum/shake on the hi way, and shifts are clunky. 2010 dcsbor. 4x4 6spd 130k. Level kit, helwig aal, leer cap. Thank you.

Might as well do the rear ones. The front DS isnt used that much, so I'd skip those joints.

It's easier to change the carrier bearing when the whole drive shaft is on the work bench.

U joints are easy when the DS is on the bench, too.

I just replaced a rear U joint today and if you've never done it before I highly recommend renting a bearing press (Advanced Auto Parts loans it for free, you just have to buy it and then return for a full refund). You're also going to want an impact gun.

I bought all new u-joints when I replaced my center bearing, but once I got in there the joints were perfect, so I just put them all back in. That was almost 2 years ago and they are still fine at 176K+.

I've been watching my center bearing for some time now and wondering if there is some definitive test to perform to see if it is time to swap it out. I can shake the drive shaft pretty hard and only get a small amount of play in the CB. Rubber all looks fine but I still wonder if there is an established test for that sucker. Feel free to advise. Thanks.

91 bucks for my shop to replace the mid u-joint. They showed me the old one whick was ground to dust. No more wobble. I'm pretty happy. Beats the heck out of laying on my back for an hour with no bearing press.

So I just picked up a 2010 DCLBTRD with 166k on it this past weekend and after having a balance it still had quite a shake on the highway. Took it to Toyota to have the leafs replaced under the recall and mentioned this shake. They said it was the u joints and there is an extended warranty on them. Being replaced by the dealer for free. Might be worth looking into.

I used a hammer and socket on my 1963 Buick LaSabre in 1973. I used a press borrowed from the auto parts store on my 2007 Taco in 2016. Does it show? Where at? Are you “The Amazing Kreskin”? lol
