Pay their dues to what end?

You see, if they dont have a degree, they understand that there is someone out there more qualified, who may even take that job just to get a job........Why bust their ass? Why work that hard when they can damn near make the same money unemployed?

I'm all for moral attitudes reinforced by values and a willingness to work yourself up. But, up to what? Where?

For 3 or 4 decades now, you damn near had to have a bachelors just to get an interview. No matter the job. No bachelors? Oh, well these 400 graduates with no experience that cant even make a bologna sammich have a piece of paper saying they are more qualified. Sorry.

There is a labor revolution afoot. It is happening. Companies aren't *requiring* college degrees anymore, and potential employees arent taking whatever job they can get anymore. There are enough ways to sustain a certain lifestyle without being employed by someone else.

Look at all the freelance photographers, graphic artists, etc. Every girl from high school that didnt get a beautician license has become some sort of photography, interior design, fashion model. They make KILLER fucking money. KILLER.

All the other girls from high school are either in the medical field (nurse, cna, lpn, NP, or other) or they are in teaching.

Dudes out here starting fab companies, marketing companies, social media companies (girls too....).

Hey... I am all for self employment and entrepreneurship. Anyone who can make a good living doing what they love or what they are good at is good by me. I'm talking about the people who take a job and then expect to get raises year after year while they slack off and let other people pull their load (including people with college degrees).

My advice to the younger guys not so much the women but if I was a 18-20 year old man I would either get into welding, electrical or plumbing. All of these fields have high demand and high pay and no college required.

I think most kids that age will get bored with most welding, electrical, or plumbing jobs that dont require some sort of post secondary education.

However, if they go get some specialized training, such as being able to weld more than just steel, ie: stainless, aluminum etc. then the welding thing could get fun, as they wont be doing spot welds and straight welds. It will get challenging and more fun.

As far as electrical goes....I would suggest electrical engineering. Robotics maybe.

Plumbing....I dont know a single human who likes plumbing....lol. Shitty job most days.

Right now, if you have any intelligence towards coding....I'd suggest learning as much as you can as quickly as possible.

Coders (not web developers, actual coders) can pretty much write down whatever number they want on a piece of paper and get it.

A few high school kids around here are bringing home more than me coding on the side at night.

There are some really cool programs at my school.

    Robotics
    CGT (Computer Graphics Technology)
    Mechanical Engineering
    Electrical Engineering
    Industrial Engineering

The way these classes are run, are top-freaking-notch.

Not only do you get to play with really cool shit, but they back up your degree with a heavy dose of leadership development and innovation/creativity, that way when you get out into the real world with your degree, you can actually move up and manage other people and projects effectively.

Trade school... and if I had a job that nobody else wanted I would be making money hand over fist. I think part of point that @sdsurfer was trying to make is that a lot of people nowadays young and old don’t want to put out a lot of effort to receive a check. Unfortunately the fields I mentioned require some ambition and effort but can be very rewarding.

I have a degree in Culinary Arts. I never once used it to get a job after I graduated. It was 2 years and $40k wasted. I'm currently in sales, which I excel at, making 3 times as much money than if I had taken a job as a chef. It's also better hours, better working environment and 3 times less stress.

If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would have gone into a trade or certified as a heavy diesel mechanic.

Insert me. I’m a heavy duty diesel mechanic. Other than working in the heat. Can’t beat working for a fleet.

The key part here is rewarding.

There is something to work FOR.

No, people dont want to put in a lot of effort to get a check that barely pays the bills, that will never be more than just a check. I agree.

    We're seeing market corrections, guys.

Everyone *needed* a college degree, so there were massive amounts of people who got bachelors. Some went further and got a MBA or PHd.

Now that we are in a global market, we dont need all of these Business Administrators, or hoity toity degrees that simply got you an interview.

The market is correcting, since we dont have enough people in trades. To another point however, there has been a 4th industrial revolution and that is of the information type. Digital information specifically. So while we need tradespeople, and they will continue to make good money, kids today can also move towards a more technology based education or career path and make GREAT money.

Its tough man. I'm in the Organizational Leadership program, but it runs through the vein of Industrial Engineering, so, I get quite a few classes that are way out of my league. HAHAHAHA.
