Well I picked up the prototype bed rack that was raffled off at the Toyota Jamboree. The guy who won it didn’t have a Tacoma so he made me a great deal. What do y’all think? I’m a little disappointed that I have to lose my tonneau cover, so if y’all have any ideas let me know.

I'm not into bed racks. But that's a nice looking one

I’d keep the cover until you actually go camping and switch it out. The cover is much more useful daily

That is a great idea, however the rack isn’t the easiest to get off, takes at least two people to get it off, plus when it’s all rigged out with a tent, lights, cans, treads, shovels.. I just think it will be too much to take on and off on a normal basis.

Plus I am moving to West Denver next week so I’m going to be within a couple hours of all my favorite trails!!

Curious to know how you’d mount a roof top tent with the track mount system. From the pictures I’m not sure how you’d mount a Tepui tent let’s say.

See the cross cutouts on the upper/top triangles? Single bolt to the track for the tent... easy.. on my ARB rtt the bolts slide the full length of the 1/2" rails. Mine is secured with a single ss bolt at each corner so I dont have the ubolt/bracket in the way of my tonneau cover... I have the kbvoodoo highrise bars..20190513_181815.jpg

Also just ordered full skids from RCI and sliders from RSG, maybe it’s finally time to start a build thread. I’m a late bloomer, I have had my truck 2 years and 34K miles lol.

That's assuming the rail system on the RTT lines up with the cross cutouts on the top triangles. If the rails don't line up, he's going to have to drill some new holes in either the rack or RTT.

He'll also have problems attempting to install multiple bike carriers, storage containers, etc. -- most of which depend on crossbar-style mounting mechanisms.

It's definitely a major design flaw for this particular rack IMO. The huge triangle plates on top are completely unnecessary and actually detrimental to several common use cases.

If it were me, I'd sell that rack, keep the tonneau cover in place, and look for a solution that works better with covers, tents, and just about everything else. The rack looks decent enough, but I'm more of a function over form guy myself.

I usually drink a lot of beer when setting up the tent but not so sure if that's a good idea with this tent .

I cant get this up pretty quick then start hitting the sauce. As long as I remember to put blankets in there, I am good. Last year I forgot and thought I was going to die in my sleep from shivering lol
