TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Do you have a reserve air tank or no? I made a 3 gallon pancake that sits tucked under the bed. The reserve tank makes a huge difference in saving time. (I've ran it both ways) Pressure switch on at 85psi and off at 105psi. Running a Buzzard gulch (pirate 4x4 recommended) Puma 100% duty compressor and I can air up all my 35" tires in under 10 min. That's from 8-12psi up to 30.

 

I do not have a tank for mine. Only reason I’d put one in would be if I did an air locker up front, but I’d rather spend the extra and do an e-locker. And not doing that until I regear for 37’s at which point I may try to swap a tundra front diff and rear axle in now that they offer 5.29 gearing. Honestly when I upgrade if I can air back up in under 20 min I’d be happy and my current setup won’t do that with my 35’s.

Forgive the ignorance but is our tensioner bearing the same as our idlers?

 

Its the same as the larger idler bearing. There is one idler that is the off size.

 

Got my roush tensioner and trying to get things ready as I've ordered all new pulley bearings.

Have you changed yours? I heard some weird noises after wheeling so I thought I'd replace everything. Do I need a press or puller?

After looking at the on the shelf options for high speed bearings, I came across these Timkens:

They have some of the highest limiting speed and reference speed ratings that I could find in an on the shelf bearing. I've been a Timken fan for OEMreplacements, I put them up there with Koyos for my preference. All in, these cost $70 delivered from Leeds. 2 day delivery time. We'll see how theylast.

I used a socket that fit the bearing outer race and a couple blocks. A quick tap with a hammer was all that was needed.

Well, I effed that up bigtime. I've spent nearly the balance on mods in a year and a half. Almost 5k in the last 2 months. I should have got a crack habit. Would've been cheaper.

Dude, we've all been there. I've had the truck paid off for 6 or so years now. Finally had resurrection of interest when I had to change out the engine last year. 6 years of no car payments can lead to all sorts of new things.

 

I've done that. Buy new, drive it mod when done paying. This is the most badass truck I've owned. It been mid frenzy. 2k stereo, 5k motor, 5k something else, 5k axels. Sheesh. Taco builds.

 

Literally could have paid off the truck like....2 years ago....got it 3 years ago....But fun times instead. Truck will be paid off in about 6 months though, so thats nice.

In other news, Called up ECGS today about a Dana 60 and was asked to email them with the exact mods I wanted to it. Got a little waffling over the phone when I asked for a wider than stock axle...so we'll see what they say.

Dana 60 with 4.10 gears and an Eaton electric locker.
70" WMS.
Leaf mounts installed for Spring under axle leafs. (Will supply drive angles)
No shock mounts installed due to custom shock placement needed at install.
35 spline chromolly axles.
New rear wheel bearings pressed in.
Will be reusing Tacoma drum brakes for now

Was told they can have the leaf mounts installed for me if I tell them what my pinion angle is set at right now. So all I need to do is get some shock mounts and burn them on and install the thing. ezpz. Hopefully they can get me the wider axle.

 

Weird. Extra width is no problem according to chase. He said he would burn on mounts for spring under too

 

Yeah I talked to Matt in sales? Maybe he just wasn't familiar with their Dana 60 system for Tacomas perfectly and didn't want to just say yes or no to anything. Hence asking for an email so he could ask around I'm guessing.

 

Anyhoo, just remembered I'm waiting on a check for 2k from my mortgage company so they definitely increases my budget for a new axle lol. So Dana 60 seems like the way to go at this point.
