I just installed a new head unit Clarion CX-400 (that was the easy part:)) and installed a SWI-JACK (never done something like this though) for the steering wheel controls. I tried numerous times without success to get the controls to work. I know I've got the wires hooked up correctly, I triple checked them with the schematic. It's probably me but just wondered if anyone had done this before and had some better directions than the pac-audio website?

Just some backround info on me, I've installed numerous aftermarket car stereos and am ASE certified in Electronics as well as other areas of automotive repair. So technical advice is easily understood:).

What HU are you using it with? I just installed one with a Kenwood deck. The programming was quite easy once you got the hang of it. However the head unit wouldn't recognize anything from the SWI-JACK, even though the red light would acknowledge the steering wheel buttons being pressed. I was using the 1.5mm jack on the SWI-JACK to the HU. Turns out, that was the reason it wasn't working. I unplugged that, and connected the blue/yellow wire to the wiring harness, starting working instantly. Not sure on the details as to why the 1.5mm jack didn't work - I dont really care anymore though because its working like a champ.

    Good luck.

Thanks captain obvious:rolleyes:. But that sticky doesn't really explain how to go through the programming sequence for my radio. Believe me I spent about an hour or 2 searching before I posted. I know better than that.

I'm installing a Clarion deck. But I figured it out. I was turning the number selection switch when I really needed to just program the buttons in order from the chart I got from the PAC website. Can you say brain fart? I guess that's what happens when you are in a hurry. I did the install while I was at work.
