Fuuuuck that lol, north of 128 degrees and I'd be questioning my existence. I don't usually plan wheeling trips if it's in the 90s haha.

That was a few years ago in Furnace Creek , near the Southern edge of Death Valley . When lived in Arizona and working as a underground electrician we had a job up in Bullhead city Ariz during the Summer months . The warmest it go there was 126° at 1700hrs

    I'm uncomfortable north of 80... 128 is a hellscape.

I remember back in 1995 at the CA4WDC Hi Desert Roundup a , rock crawling event near Barstow . We did the Calico trails , Doran Canyon , Odessa Canyon and the Gatekeeper . The event was on Memorial day and it was 110° , it was a very warm and dusty day !!!!

Meh, I'm still down. The earlier the better. I wanna take my truck one last time before I start chopping the bed.

If you stay in the valley, that's a true statement. But, there are a couple of trails, out of the valley and inside the park, that offer challenges.
Pronghorn and Vic's Cat come to mind. Homestead would also be a nice one to try.

Pronghorn has a difficult up hill section where a locker would make it fairly easy, but open diff would be a little harder. Coming down the Pronghorn, you may get up on 3 wheels.
There are many YouTube video of Tacos and other 4x4's at the Pronghorn 'Squid Filter'.

That being said, I have done these trails countless times on my dirt bike, but not yet in my truck. I am camping at Mount Pinos the weekend of June 14 - 16 and plan to hit Gorman on that Saturday. Any 'Trail Bosses' want to lead this inexperienced driver and maybe others, over Pronghorn?

More than enough terrain to act and pretend indeed.

CVs are stupid easy, just don't smash the threads when you put it in lol. But really they aren't that hard.

Also welcome to owning a 1st gen 4x4. They are great, reliable trucks but 15+ years old at this point and that equals maintenance expenses no matter what brand it is. Especially if you intend on wheeling it

I was looking at How Tos for rebooting the axle. Looks complicated, or is it not as bad as it looks?

I've never done it, always just opted to put a new one in since rebooting means it has to come off anyway. But rebooting an OEM is probably worth the effort, an aftermarket axle definitely not. I don't think it's overly complicated, just really messy.

I'm pretty down to do gorman/pronghorn for the next monthly trip. I feel like it would be a good meet for everyone including the beginners if the terrain really isnt too bad...

Excellent idea. We should make that trip on the 13th, not the first weekend, since I won't be around the first weekend of July :D

I agree with this! With fourth of July there will be a lot of people not able to make it. Is everyone down to do the 2nd monthly meet at gorman on the 13th?
