I went with the front window (cab side) so that I could keep an eye on my dogs while on the road. I don't miss the rear window because my mirrors and rear view camera give me more than enough visibility. If I am camping and want more light there are plenty of combinations of options with the panels, zipper windows, etc. By not getting the rear window I have a much better piece of mind when I leave the truck at trailheads and in the city. I feel like the chance of theft increases when people can see all of the gear and hardware I have on the inside. If I didn't have dogs I wouldn't have gotten the front. Yes, I could simply cover up the back window to get similar results, but I have yet to think "Oh I'm glad I got the front window" or "I really wish I got the rear window"

    Yep
How secure is this thing? If you wanted or needed to break in is it easy? It's something I have thought about as well. I realize anything can be broken into but hoping it is really hard and takes skill and or tools.

The sides are 0.050in thick 5000-series aluminum that is lightly stiffened. Starting there, a windowless GFC is less secure than most utility canopies. IMVHO, security is not what this is all about.

With the number on the road and distinct lack of data points popping up here, you could either assume that it is not a problem or check in with GFC about it?

I have a curtain for the window I installed that I use when I'm changing or have stuff in the back. But I don't really consider the space secure.

Rear window and security didn't really cross my mind. I came from a Jeep, and like any SUV, there are windows into the back and your belongings can be seen.

The rear facing camera is good. I think the windows in everyday driving are better. I don't think the camper is all that secure to begin with honestly so important stuff like my camera bag are inside the cab anyway where I can see them, and then not left in the truck at all.

Worrying more than that just seems tiring.

I feel like it wouldn't be much of a hassle to break into the GFC, but that is par for the course with the majority of camper shells. I just like the idea of out of site out of mind. All of my gear is insured, but I'd rather not have thousands of dollars of things like climbing gear, bikes, electronics, etc readily visible. Once again this could be solved with something as simple as a curtain as previously mentioned. I'm just providing my data point that I haven't missed a window. If its raining and I want light, I simply popup the tent and remove a couple of bedding panels to light the place up with natural, soft light.

With how easily my hinge blew out, the GFC is NOT secure. Probably good enough though, until some crook gets smart/lucky and goes on a spree. It'll happen eventually.

They’re just as secure as any camper, vehicle or house. It doesn’t take much to break into any of those.

I was promised a complete make-over, but with a 4-6 week lead time plus whatever pickup and drop off time, I can’t go without it for that long right now.

I was told a hinge and rivets were sent out. I’ll just drill out 50ish rivets by hand and re-rivet by hand. That’ll hopefully hold for my next trips until the overhaul.

They told me they had never seen this before, but I checked all my hinges and they show wear that looks like it’ll give soon

What does the wear on your other hinges look like and how long have you had your unit?

How are you guys washing your GFC. Is it simply take out the mattresses and spray it down or is there some special way that works better. My tent portion is pretty dirty right now and I would like to get cleaned up a bit

You could park it open outside in the rain

edit: wait you are in CA, never mind. it doesn't rain there. Garden hose it is.

I take out the cushions and pressure wash it all at the car wash. Works great.

Looks like the edges are 'dry' and ready to peel. If I stand at the back of the GFC and put my eye to the hinge, I can see it isn't uniformly straight all the way to the front. There are several high and low spots, which I think may be a compromise in the hinge. The scored portion of the hinge is terribly thin, and obviously didn't hold up on one of my sides.

Still waiting on the replacement hinge, don't even know if it was actually sent, and my unit was #43 that I received July 13, 2018

If someone wants to break into your GFC, they are going to. The same with a car.
I think it would be easier to break a window than to break through a panel or open the tent and climb down (The tent doesn't lock).

You can’t even pad lock it? There isn’t a lock loop?

Can you post more pictures of the wear? That’s a little concerning. You’re probably in the first batch of GFCs. If this starts happening to more units after a year or two that would be huge.

I double checked mine today and have no signs of similar wear with my earlier production GFC.
