Like someone said earlier in the lost weight is not a problem. Proper tunning / valving and custom built weight specific parts will handle it in theory. But yeah if you just buy off shell shock and expect it to perform you’re probably not going to like what you get.

No, money isn't a factor, a lot of people around with deep pockets. Even heavy duty Tacoma SUA packs aren't designed for grossly over-weight rears ends. SUA packs are designed for travel, not supporting 1000lb over stock. The last person I saw try to do SUA on an expo truck thought he knew better than everyone and did it anyway. He ended up pulling all the SUA shit off after a trip or 2 because it couldn't handle the weight. If you want load carrying capability and travel it needs to be linked.

    I'm here for the memes
There are a lot of things that people can read in a brochure about a product and say "oh yea that will work with my application," but actually getting feedback from people about that product or talking to those who know what they are talking about when it comes to LT is a different story. It's simple, if you want an SUA, you have to be light. Im guessing OP is prob going with the deaver 539/540 because its an SUA and rated at 500+lbs. Won't work buddy.

750-1000 lbs custom made so yeah not something you buy from a brochure. But you all may be right for all I know I might be loosing my swing out bumper and going back to Rtt set up instead of habitat.

    Good luck with that.

You might want to call Deaver about their SUA pack weight ratings, I heard someone called not long ago and the caller was flat out told that they couldn't make SUA packs to hold that much weight for these trucks

That’s another thing. Having a RTT and a SUA/ go-fast rear end also sounds like a bad idea. Once you start gaining speed you’ll quickly remember that you have a giant sail / weigh on top of your truck. I would imagine that a small mistake while going fast would have you rolling your money pit in no time. Sure you can get a few cool pics here and there but in the honest reality I think it’s a scary idea to go fast and spend all that money with a RTT above the bed

Oh I’m well aware!! The tubing work alone for a proper boxed truck for go fast stuff weighs a ton but it all has a very important purpose and it keeps the weight down low too also. I was just sharing my concerns without being over dramatic

Appreciate all of your conserns. But unless you do it you never really know how it will work or not. Lots of things might work in theory but don’t and it works the other way around. I’ll keel you posted how it all works out

Deaver can literally tell you whether it will work or not since they make the leaf packs in house. Personally, I don't like Deaver, but they probably have some idea of what they are talking about.

I've actively discouraged people from doing some of the things I've done to my truck for the same reasons, if someone isn't out beating the shit out of their truck regularly, all that expensive shit isn't worth it and just adds long term maintenance costs and downtime when things break. Some people listen, some don't. :notsure:

Most people including yourself Are too late to a train that has left the station. If you read all the responses there are different opinions given which contradict each other. That said I don’t think there is right or wrong with either choice based on research and reading I’ve dine. But hey if I’m totally wrong so be it at least I’ve done it instead of making a lot of assumptions. My take on it is as long as it’s done by a professional shop that specializes in this sort of field and knows exactly what I have there should be less surprises in the end. I’m not going to chop it all up in a basement hoping I get it right myself so at least we’re taking that out of the way. I never said I wanted a rock crawler nor did I say I want to go jump this at 70 mph either You are making a lot of assumptions and frankly some people, sadly on tw seem to do that a lot which is fine but doesn’t mean that every opinion given is a right expert based one either. If I’ve listened to every advice that’s floating this site I would have never done anything at all. As far as leaf under I had that set up on my 2nd gen and it was the best mod it got. made it much more enjoyable to drive. But hell maybe I should call the shop and say guys over Tacoma world know this better than you never mind you’ve built such things for last 20 years ;) again I value inputs but they are given way after the research period I was going trough so at this point it is what it is. As far as I can tell most what has been said is based on what other have heard or think. There was very little to none expert advice that I got. I mean if one doesn’t know that deaver makes a custom leaf rated for 1k lbs than why should I consider that advice

I agree having any weight on top in general regardless of a set up is not welcomed. I wasn’t planning on a very high speed jumps. Goal was to have a note plush ride and better travel numbers for varied applications maybe I’ve missed the mile marker as most guys are suggesting

    very well put.

Hell my 8 year old OME nitrochargers and wheelers super bumps are good bombing down a fire road at 50mph.

Only reason I want to do anything to them is my rear shocks are limiting droop 2 1/2 inches

Thanks. To be frank I defiantly came off defensive myself. I read my reply post just now and should have done it prior to replying. Money is an issue on a contrary to what it might look like. I’ve been saving up for a while so just because I’m going for bigger fish all at once doesn’t mean that I have unlimited funds though I can see how that might appear from the outside perspective. Tacoma came with armor sliders and steel bumpers so I just kept those at least for now. I suppose they could come off if absolutely a must. It has AT habitat with some gear/fridge yes she is a pig I admit. She is regeared to 5.29s but it has nothing to do with suspenssion we’re talking about. I spoke to several guys here on TW as well as few shops. The general impression I got was that more travel is better than less travel unless you are not leaving flat packed dirt trails or highways. I also have been told that a dual front shock helps to manage the weight of the truck and make it more stable. I did not care for a full blown pre runner LT 3+ on each side. So When I spoke with total chaos owner who has a similar overland set up with go fast camper and sua he explained that the 2” race series would offer “better ride “ under most conditions (my Jeep days are over I’m not planing on rock hopping this set up). I don’t know what “better” means really but if it means better stability flexibility and ride than why not ? At the same time it’s very subjective matter. What is better for you is not better for someone else that how this world works. I have a base knowledge of how to work on cars not much garage space is why I have to outsource most of the things I could otherwise probably do myself. Not a ton of experience with rebuilding shocks or tunning them. As far as usage goes No towing maybe some overland maybe light Baja lots of camping and exploring fire roads that are remote and not just your average packed dirt and who knows what else we all want a unicorn do it all I’m not that naive I realize that can’t happen but I wanted to at least try getting remotely close if I could. Was hoping to explore A lot of places around sierras maybe Colorado Oregon Washington and so on. Sua was for up travel reasons and smoother ride i will have another chat with shop and deaver since I certainly hope they are not pulling my leg about it supporting 1k lbs. not sure if that at all answered any of your questions. Either way I appreciate you taking the time I believe intent is well meant.
