I installed a overhead compass on my 2008 but it wont calibrate the direction and is stuck in calibrating mode, I am not sure how to fix it and why it wont calibrate correctly or to even get it out of that mode.

I could be wrong, but I thought someone said to drive around in circles until it calibrates. And no, I am not kidding and trying to get you to drive around in circles so I can laugh at you!

I believe you are correct. The problem is that the displays for the 2009 and up are hard to come by. The earlier models are much easier to source. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to switch the pin layout on the 2009 wiring harness to match up correctly with the 2008 and earlier displays? Anyone have a source for a wiring diagram for each of the different model years?

    From the Gentex site:

    Calibration instructions:
1)If the compass display reads “C” the compass feature must be calibrated.
a)To calibrate the compass, drive the vehicle in up to 3 complete circles at less than 5mph.

Yes, as long as your truck is not a 4 banger (even if it has the sensor, like mine, it will not work) I know because I bought one from a 2011 (same year as mine) and temp gauge read '---'. Still sitting in the box in the garage...

That's weird. I wonder where the difference lies. You would think that if the wiring and sensor were there that it would be a simple "plug n play". Oh well, guess if I want to know how cold it is, I'll continue to roll down the window; on the wife's side that is. ;)

Something to do with the difference in the AC units between the 6 an 4 cylinder

Ebay is your friend. Usually there are a handful at least for sale at any given time.

Hey nice write up. Super helpful.

I just did this for my 2010. I was assured by the wrecking yard that it was a 2010 module I had purchased from them. After install and replacing the sensor by the rad it still reads " -- " and the compass doesn't seem to work at consistently reading "NE".

Do you know if my issue is that the module is the wrong configuration/year and the wrecking yard hosed me? (if so is there a way to identify on the module temp/compass unit what year it is made for?)
Or is there something else it could possibly be?

    Thanks

Hey @mray, have you made it work? It looks like AC part#'s are the same for 4cyl and 6 cyl.
